NY Post: Michael Moore to Accept People's Choice Award Tonight.
http://www.nypost.com/gossip/37874.htm

MOORE A MAN OF THE PEOPLE'S

January 9, 2005 -- Lefty filmmaker Michael Moore has been tipped he's going to win the People's Choice Award tonight, Tom O'Neil reports at goldderby.com.

This is the first year these awards - which insiders have long suspected notifies winners in advance - resorted to online voting instead of a Gallup poll.

Tinseltown has been buzzing about organized campaigns on behalf of Moore's Bush-bashing "Fahrenheit 9/11," which goes up against the likes of "Spider-Man 2" and "The Incredibles" for favorite movie, as well as for Mel Gibson's equally controversial "The Passion of the Christ," which is up for best drama.

Moore's flacks didn't return Post movie critic Lou Lumenick's calls, but sources confirmed he is snubbing tonight's New York Film Critics Circle awards to attend the Hollywood ceremony, where polar opposite Gibson is also expected to make an appearance.

2. Mel Gibson isn't Moore's "polar opposite", that's a bunch of bull.
For one thing, Gibson doesn't make documentaries. And, as far as I know, Gibson hasn't given support for either the Iraq war nor George Bush in general. He actually declined to say who he was voting for in 2004 when people ASSumed he was a Bushbot.

He may not like Michael Moore, but there are lefties that don't like him either.

32. Mel...
...is pretty much his own man. He speaks his mind, which I admire. His ideas and politics can royally suck and his acting?

What I think is hilarious, the Repubs and the Evangelicals have coveted him in the same way they have coveted the flag and patriotism. All of which will bite them in the ass at one point or another.

(flame on about the Mel comment :grr: )

3. This will REALLY get Bush and his Thugs Angina
I hope to hell Michael Moore wins best film tonight. That will really get not only Shrub and his cronies in the cross-hairs, but the also the Jesus Christers who will be watching to see if The Passion can pull it off.

I want to see Gibson's face when they announce Michael Moore. Wonder if he claps?

Again my friends...drip, drip, drip. This will only entice Moore to make F - 11/2.

23. Gibson is nominated in another category
His film is up for best drama. I believe MM's film is up against The Incredibles, Shrek II and a few others for favourite/best film of the year. Thus, the two aren't in direct competition.

14. Consider the source.
Edited on Sun Jan-09-05 09:17 PM by rocknation
If Moore won by a free and fair election, what are they bitching about? That he may have "campaigned" for the award? Yeah, right, as if no other candidate for a media award has ever done that before! Their idea of being fair and balanced is describing The Passion as "equally controversial," but note that it didn't "bash" anyone the way F-9/11 did. And their did their "sources" mention whether or not Moore had actually committed to attending the Film Critics awards? How do we know that the source wasn't a resentful Film Critics "flack?" Amazing how much venom they can work into to just a few lines.

21. Read this...
From: http://www.goldderby.com/insidetrack/insidetrack1.asp

"Last week it became clear that "Fahrenheit" might win when Moore mysteriously chose to ditch his earlier plan to attend tonight's gala dinner of the New York Film Critics Circle, which had planned to give him their award for Best Documentary, a victory announced on Dec. 13. Now rumor has it that Miramax chief Harvey Weinstein -- who organized "Fahrenheit 9/11's" indie patchwork distribution -- will attend the Roosevelt Hotel gala to accept on Moore's behalf."

Well that is tremendous. Congratulations Michael Moore!

The Passion also won a People's Choice Award, I wonder if the Passion is up for one of the Critic's awards.

40. at one point the show questioned the motives the U.S. govt =corrupt
The cabinet members back stabbed the president and it was obvious that the mutiny and the corruption was going somewhere interesting--
Then out of nowhere the next episode canned all the corruption and made the bad guys in the government out to be good.
I know there must have been controversy with the writers when they suddenly changed the story line that severely.
.
.

Now it is propaganda all the way-->>
.

This past episode implied:

1) Arab families are cold vicious and heartless and will remain undercover for years-
- even the mom and the kid and are all in with terrorists
(the wicked Arab family had been in the country plotting for 4 years and they were all in on the terror plot together with the teenage son).

2) Protesters and activists are childish and uniformed (Moore comment, etc.,).

3) Torture is ok and preferred in hi pressure situations
(Keifer shot the terror suspect in the leg and got answers "just in the nick of time")

4) Muslims are close minded when it comes to accepting white Americans
(mentioned the word Muslim by name and associated it as a reason for Arabs shunning those of other backgrounds).

5) Arabs heads of households are dictators and command the family
(Dad insisted his son kill his own girlfriend who was white- -just in case she knew something)

6) We as Americans are in real danger all the time and it's so good the Secret Agents are out there trying to protect us.

Can't wait to see the hidden insinuations in tomorrow night's episode !

Fox incorporates subtle propaganda in everything they play-not just the news
-just observe any show's story line-
they've taken it alot further than you'd think any station would bother to-

-conspiracy theory or not, just observe and see --it's amazing !

Thank you! Thank you very much.

We live in a great country and we all love our country very much and I am so amazed that you did this — the people of America — that you voted for this film. I can't thank you enough.

I'm honored and gratified and I know that there are many people tonight — mothers and fathers across this country — with sons and daughters in Iraq. Our prayers are with them and I dedicate this award to them tonight.

I want to thank, most of all, the people out there who voted for this. I don't want you to give up. This country is still all of ours. Not just right or left, democrat or republican, it's all of our country.

I love making movies and I'll take this as an invitation to make more ‘Fahrenheit 9/11’s.

Thank you very much. Thank you very much.

37. Good for Micheal Moore
I have always liked his stuff. The claim that he isn't objective is a straw man - as a documentary maker he naturally takes a point of view. He drives the neo-conservative propagandists nuts because he doesn't make things up the way that they do.

The slagging he has undergone must have been tough. I hope this energizes him to stay in the game.
