Iraq WMD report shelved due to lack of evidence
Sunday, 14 September , 2003, 13:53

London: After failing to get any evidence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, the US and Britain have decided to delay indefinitely the publication of a full report on the controversial issue, media reported today.

Efforts by the Iraq Survey Group, an Anglo-American team of 1,400 scientists, military and intelligence experts, to scour Iraq for the past four months to uncover evidence of chemical or biological weapons have so far ended in failure, The Sunday Times claimed in its report.

It had been expected that a progress report would be published tomorrow but MPs on the British Parliaments security and intelligence committee have been told that even this has been delayed and no new date set.

British defence intelligence sources have confirmed that the final report, which is to be submitted by David Kay, the survey groups leader, to George Tenet, head of the CIA, had been delayed and may not necessarily even be published, the paper said

4. After the "Major combat" was over
The nitwit-in-chief, while in Kuwait in front of a friendly military group, said "the truth about the WMD would be revealed" I guess he was telling the truth on that one, however, not wanting to break with tradition he stated that the balloon inflator vans were for sure used for production of WMD.

He is a fool

5. They really don't need to produce them anymore...
I think by now everyone who really cared about it is upset about the weak evidence before the war and deceptions in what was said leading up to it, and anyone who's just gonna keep defending the war with stuff like "we needed to take out a dictator" doesn't care anyways.

9. No one was more against this war than I was.
And even I believed that at least some small shred of WMD programs would be found. Honestly, how many of you believed that Bush would be so totally exposed as a liar?

I thought there would be something there. I just didn't believe SH was a threat to the US. Who would've thought there was absolutely nothing?

Bush's incompetence never ceases to amaze me.

12. I thought an old cannister of mustard gas would turn up...
... something like that. It's surprising that not ONE... LITTLE... BIT... of WMD could be found. The Iraqis did an amazing job of cleaning house. Did them no good, and that will be noted by Iran and North Korea, I am sure.

26. I did!
I never had a single doubt that Iraq was free of WMD. My main reasoning was that there was absolutely NO benefit to Hussein to be had by retaining such weapons. To use them or to keep them was inviting destruction, and if Hussein was ANYTHING, he was a survivor.

Also high in my reasoning was the knowledge that attempting to oust Hussein while he had WMD was a surefire way to gaurantee that he'd use them, and that was the last thing Bush and his minions wanted.

Their determination to invade was a very strong signal to me that they KNEW Iraq had no WMD. Can you imagine what would have happened if tens of thousands of US troops died agonising deaths in clouds of VX gas? What would he do, nuke the second largest supply of oil in the world? No way, because that would increase the cost of recovering that oil and make it uneconomical.

Nope, I never had any doubt that Iraq was WMD free. Too bad it wasn't oil free, because this war would never have happened if it was.

22. Could be as Rush said back on July 22nd….
<http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_072203/content/rush_is_right.guest.html>

Rush, back on July 22nd:
Kay said that he's seen plenty of WMDs found in Iraq, but that the administration is waiting to release it. The administration may wait as long as six months to tell us of the caches they've found - a time frame that would put the revelation of the weapons every one from the UN to Bill Clinton to the EU to EIB knows Saddam had smack dab in the middle of the Democrat primary season. Senators Pat Roberts (R-KS) and John Warner (R-VA) said they'd seen the same stuff and agreed it couldn't yet be released.

But, me thinks that if anything was there, Blair of all people, would want it presented and presented now. He doesn’t have the luxury of a group of mediawhores behind him. The fact that this report, a report that David Kay said back on Aug. 1st said would contain some “remarkable surprises”, could be shelved, is extremely damaging to the case for war. I’m sure the media in England will be all over this, whereas, here in the US, I have my doubts.

28. No, there simply isn't anything to find
If there was anything they would have made a big deal out of it. They made a big deal out of anything they found, like the balloon launcher and the weed killer. So, it is doubtful that they would hold anything back at this point.

The fact that nothing remains in that country speaks volumes for the effect of UN inspections and the sanctions placed on Iraq. Too bad that no one had the wisdom to see this and be able to figure out a way of dealing with Saddam so that this invasion could have been avoided. I suppose that this is way too much to ask in this stupid world we live in.

30. You're right and Rumsfield telegraghed it the other day.
On Newshour, he was asked if he discussed WMD with David Kay when they met and he said that that was a State Dept. issue and he didn't have time to go into such details. Right. If Kay had evidence, Rummy would be all over himself telling everyone who could listen that he was vindicated.

Time to change the subject...expect that Iraq is the central battlefield of terror is the new meme.

would be found.
Then, again, nasty rumors of planted WMD missions abound.

"The administration has been telling us for months that it would be released in mid-September. And now, of course, it's mid-September.

Then a couple days ago NBC's Andrea Mitchell reported that Kay's survey had come up short, but implied that a report would indeed be issued when Kay returns to Washington this week.

But this morning the Sunday Times of London is reporting (subscription required) that "Britain and America have decided to delay indefinitely the publication of a full report on Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction after inspectors found no evidence that any such weapons exist."
