Extra-Tight Security at Bush's Inaugural
By JOAN LOWY
Jan 11, 2005, 00:07

...

Anti-abortion protesters have been warned to leave their crosses at home. Parade performers will have security escorts to the bathroom, and they've been ordered not to look directly at President Bush or make any sudden movements while passing the reviewing stand.

Groups planning demonstrations during the inauguration festivities are already smarting from security restrictions. Anti-war protesters with the A.N.S.W.E.R Coalition have complained that large sections of the parade route have been set aside for Bush's political contributors and supporters and will be closed to the general public.

The anti-abortion Christian Defense Coalition, which is also planning a demonstration, has threatened to sue the government because the Secret Service recently added crosses to its list of objects that are banned from the parade route.

...

Besides weapons, other items on the banned list include coolers, folding chairs, bicycles, pets, papier-mache objects, displays such as puppets, mock coffins, props, and "any items determined to be a potential safety hazard."

...

Other instructions given performers include a warning not to look directly at Bush while passing the presidential reviewing stand, not to look to either side and not to make any sudden movements.

Edited on Tue Jan-11-05 11:40 AM by TahitiNut
It'd be very interesting to have complete access to all the instructions the snipers have gotten.

I wonder how 'historical' it would be for a sniper to take out a parade participant. That'd be one helluva 'legacy' for the Fecal Führer - emblematic of his core attitudes.

5. Two thoughts:
The extra-tight security is less to protect bush* from international terrorists than to protect him from eggs, tomatoes, and protest signs from American dissidents. I just wonder how ANSWER will get to demonstrate its displeasure, and if protests will be shown on mass media. C-Span is the channel of the day, I guess.

Washington DC is being asked to pay for the costs of protecting the king, instead of the coronation committee paying for it. For a good read on this, go to www.bluelemur.com. So, DC's Homeland Security funds are to be used, not the inauguration's commitee's. Bah.

As an aside, I am going to the Jazz Funeral for Democracy in New Orleans on Inauguration Day, sure hope it gets some media attention. There is another Funeral in Portsmouth, NH that day. It would be wonderful if there were "Funerals for Democracy" all over America that day. www.jazzfuneralforamerica.com

13. This raises an interesting question about "Turn Your Back on Bush..."
I've read where some demonstrators might turn their backs on Bush as he passes by. Now that the Emperor's security people don't want protesters to look at His Royal Flatulence, wouldn't this be seen as complying with that order? Wouldn't this weaken the significance of the protest?

Don't look at Bush don't look to the side, just move along staring straight ahead like a good little robot.

All they need to do now is require the marching-band members to march with a nice high goose-step, and Bush will have the nice, orderly kind of parade that Brezhnev used to watch!

Bet he'll enjoy it.

that's just CREEPY....don't LOOK directly AT HIM???

I mean, I have no idea why anyone would want to in the first place, but how damn creepy is that order?

It reminds me of the days of monarchs with absolute rule. Next people will have to kiss his ring--oh wait, that would mean they would be physically near him. DAMN, not even KINGS had this kind of isolation from everyone and everything!

I wonder if the people at all the lavish parties are allowed to look directly at him.

The Most Hated Man in the World. Can't even be looked at at his own inauguration parade. How pathetic must it be to be bush right now?

Since he doesn't want anyone looking at him...whatta dork. Why not just SAVE THE MONEY BEING WASTED and send it to the Tsunami victims?
This 'inauguration' do is in spectacularly bad taste in light of the fact that the U.S. has been driven to the brink of bankruptcy by this imbecile and there are millions of people in desperate need of the basic necessities of survival. Bush blew $40 million on his first 'inauguration' and he doesn't need another big deal. Maybe this is all done to hide from him how much we all detest him?

This (p)Resident will go down in history as the most despised president, bar none.

That's infuruating. Millions of people displaced because of a natural disaster and billions in aid needed to help restore the world. What do we do? Let's spend millions and millions to throw a party for Fearless Leader! Even better, let's arm everyone to the teeth and make sure no one feels safe while they're celebrating him! Because we love him so much, we all need to avert our eyes for fear we get popped by a sniper protecting him.

37. why
don't you just bring your newly legalized automatic assault rifles and other ammo-nation stuff and chase him out of washington starting the revolution half US and the rest of the globe is hoping for.

Violence? yes. Deaths? yes. But you still get better chances than picked of one by one at home at work etc.

It would also be a good symbolism if the capital were in the hands of blue rebels at the start of the rebellion..

Blue won vs grey

Blue will win against brown if they fight. You don't need to win. just pressure them bad enough that UN can send the peacekeeprs in. If you win thats of course ok too.

If you don't fight you'll lose anyway. the germans did too.
The spaniards got caught on fascism as well but they fought before franco made it to top. the aera doesn't make much to spains shame because THEY FOUGHT.

US will end up in history as NaziGermanias big brother (save your sanctimonious "don't insult the jews" for when the cabal left power, i'm pretty convinced they'll outdo Gröfaz (A.H.) before they go)

Fight or submit. Fleeing will delay that decision. Fight or submit. Every day the powers that be are fortifieng their positions. You can wait till the cage around you is completed but then it will be too late by then.

It might save you from beeing nuked by another country eventually (alas not from the own powers that be).

it's just my opinion. Voting fraud and stuff should be reason enough. and i faintly recall a passage in the constitution OBLIGING to rebel a traitorous government. You are more. Show em.

i'm not american so i may relatively fearlessly say this.

/icy pragmatism off

Jan 20th has been suggested as a day of protest. It works this way: Do not buy anything on that day to demonstrate the power of those citizens who do not agree with this administration. I don't know if this belongs here, but is a partial step in ramping up defiance to this inhumane administration. Feel free to pass it on.

41. Why don't the frauds just call it a coup anyway?
We are really being run by a military dictatorship if you haven't noticed. There is no Representative government here

From "The White House Putsch" : "Few Americans know it, but during the Great Depression, a cabal of millionaire bankers and industrialists hatched a conspiracy to hijack the U.S. government and install a fascist dictatorship. It was, in the words of contemporary journalist John L. Spivak, "one of the most fantastic plots in American history."

Spivak's assessment in his 1967, A Man in His Time, certainly continues to hold true sixty years after the fact: "What was behind the plot was shrouded in a silence which has not been broken to this day. Even a generation later, those who are still alive and know all the facts have kept their silence so well that the conspiracy is not even a footnote in American histories."

Although a congressional committee confirmed the allegations, the findings were hushed up amid murmurs of a coverup. No wonder. The plotters were brand-name American finaciers in the Morgan and Du Pont commercial empires, right-wingers bitterly opposed to Franklin Delano Roosevelt's New Deal and the president's sympathies toward organized labor.

48. Pets are banned?
...Other instructions given performers include a warning not to look directly at Bush while passing the presidential reviewing stand, not to look to either side and not to make any sudden movements.

People were not allowed to look at the Emperor of Japan.

So, now that people are not allowed to look directly at Bush, do you all remember that Bush was not to get any dirt on his shoes?

Money in his coffers, but no dirt on his shoes.
By Jimmy Breslin, March 11, 2004.

For days now, the job at Eisenhower Park in Nassau County has been to follow the order from the White House through the Secret Service and down to the park workers:

"The president's feet are not to touch the dirt."

So all yesterday, large crews drawn from all county parks worked to ensure that, as always in his life, George Bush's feet do not touch the ground when he appears in the big park today.

Bush arrives for a fund-raiser at a restaurant in the park. That is indoors and he doesn't have to worry about his feet there. But he has to go over ground to an administration building where he is to meet with families of 9/11 victims. After that, he has to go over more ground to get to the site of a memorial to the victims.

He doesn't want his feet on the ground and he will be at a groundbreaking ceremony...

The link no longer functions (too old), but I have the complete article. And notice that this was for 9/11 families, and Bush was too good to get dirt on his shoes for them.
