Dean to Seek Democratic Chairmanship
WASHINGTON - Former presidential candidate Howard Dean (news - web sites), once the early front-runner for the Democratic nomination whose candidacy stumbled, has decided to seek the party's chairmanship.

"The Democratic Party needs a vibrant, forward-thinking, long-term presence in every single state," Dean wrote in a letter to members of the Democratic National Committee (news - web sites). "We must be willing to contest every race at every level. We can only win when we show up."

Dean's entry into the race appears to pre-empt another bid for the presidency in 2008. The chairman's job carries a four-year term and Dean has said that anyone who serves as chairman should be ruled out as a presidential candidate.

In his letter, Dean made it clear that he remains part of what he calls "the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party," a phrase he borrowed from the late Sen. Paul Wellstone of Minnesota.

5. There's hope if he gets the votes...

From the DNC FAQ...

What's the difference between a Party member and Governing Body member of the DNC?
Anyone who is registered to vote as a Democrat is a member of the Party. Anyone who contributes money to the Democratic Party is also considered a member of the Party. The DNC's governing body, however, is made up of approximately 400 elected and appointed members of the Democratic National Committee. The Governing body elects the officers of the National Committee: the Chairmen, five Vice Chairs, Treasurer, Secretary, and National Finance Chair.

http://www.democrats.org/about/faq.html

I think we need to reach out to the governing body members of the DNC to help get Dean in the top seat.

we need a list of these members!

30. This truly excites me!
I remember when folks talked about this, but I didn't think he'd really go for it. I hope he gets enough backing to make it real.

Did anyone keep the list of his original endorsers? Are any of those people currently part of the DNC?

And is Terry McAuliffe planning to step down? Or was he planning to stay for another 4 years?

Desperately new at this, and I have a tendency to get frustrated trying to say the right thing. Does anyone have a template to follow? I want to send something to each person on the California list. Like, this week. Wait, when's the vote?

17. If it isn't Dean--or a reformer--I'm gonna bail
I'm not a big Deanie (I supported Clark in the primaries), but it looks like reform vs status quo (Roemer). And oh yes, the status quo has been soooooooo successful.

At some point you have to say, sorry but you guys are just too dumb to live. Hope it doesn't come to that.

I think Dean would be stone cold perfect for this job. Mark Brewer is from my state (Michigan) and I WILL be contacting him. Repeatedly.
John
I'll agree with you further to note that if the Dems don't find some fighters real damned soon, I'm going to vote -- I don't know -- Socialist Worker or something in 2008.

20. Hello all - This is my first post
:headbang:

I live in Texas. I voted for Dean in the primary despite the fact that it didn't count. My only hope of survival in this not-as-red-as-you-might-think-state for the next four years was that I would get a chance to vote for him when he ran for President in 2008. Where can Dean do the most immediate good? If he grabs the DNC spot I will be most pleased and I too will stick with the party. If not, I hope Dean considers the Dems unworthy and goes independent. Regardless, he will get my vote. Thanks for posting the list of DNC voters. Its time to use up those cell phone minutes! Any chance we can get e-mail addresses for these folks too?

25. This might be a bit of hyperbole,
but Howard Dean is the only sane choice.

He certainly knows how to organize, and he works his ass off.

No "Mr. Marshmallow", he.

If the DNC wants any money from me ever again, they best be putting Dean in the seat.

34. The Doctor is back!
We all knew this was coming but it is so nice that it is now official. Over at Blog for America they are going nuts! Hundreds of posts! All the old names from the primary days are back and ready to rock! I think it is going to be a tougher fight than we might think because we have to beat the Clinton machine. They already have the Chair of the Democratic Congressional Committee in place and they want total control as always. There are a lot of powerful Democrats working for Dean under the radar and that might help. Personally I have promised that if Reomer (who is "pro-life") gets the job I will organize Democratic Voter Registration Card Burnings and urge people to abandon the party if it abandons its principles. The Birthday of Roe v. Wade is coming up this month. A whole generation of women have grown up with the right to chose. When I was a kid in a small town in the Northwest I knew the women and girls who went to back alley doctors or used coat hangers and died or were scared for life. I will never stand for women being treated like that again. Every time somebody calls me a "Baby Killer" I call them a "Women Killer". Yes, I do have a litmus test. I don't support people who force women to risk their lives and bodies. Yeh, I'm a guy but that doesn't mean I won't stand up for women's rights. I'm also white but I've marched for civil rights too. Dr. Dean is the only candidate in decades that has made me feel like he cared about the same things I care about and he was willing to fight by my side.
This is IMHO the last chance the Democratic Party has. They better take a long look at where they are going or they will be walking alone.
It is a better day when there is hope.

39. Go Howard Dean! Time to reclaim your party's values!
I'm so excited about this, I'd nearly given up hope for y'all south of the border. You need him or someone like him to change the direction of the Dem party and shovel it out of the right of centre hole that its digging itself into. Get it working for the people again instead of working for the CEO's.

And Mr Dean can do it for you. They (being the repukes and the "moderate" dems) are terrified of him. Why else would the MSM stoop to replaying the 5 second clip of his voice cracking over and over and over.
