Flooding damages homes and businesses along Ohio River, killing one

During her first four months in business, Mary Ann Abbott's home furnishing store has twice been flooded by the Ohio River. She's not willing to get soaked again.

"I think I'm done," she said Monday.

The river, fed by swollen tributaries, has flooded parts of West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana since heavy rain fell last week on ground already saturated by melted snow from a storm before Christmas.

2. Yep, our soccer fields are flooded again

but not as badly, and thank goodness there was time to get the equipment out of there over the weekend. Marietta got hit really hard, again. 3rd time in two years. There was an interesting bit on NPR this morning comparing Parkersburg (floodwall installed in the '50s) with Marietta (floodwall? we don't need no stinkin' floodwall!)

5. Yeah. But these days, it's really cost prohibitive, too,

unless of course, it actually floods. They said P'burg's flood wall cost $5mil of which the city paid $350,000. The rest was federal. Today that would translate into about $60mil for Marietta. And yeah, one of the charming things about Marietta IS the view. But then there's the floods... I don't know. I was telling a friend today I'm glad I'm not in charge of making those decisions. These days, I can't decide paper or plastic. =)
