Miller Says She Won't Run For Senate Against Stabenow

DETROIT -- U.S. Rep. Candice Miller said Tuesday that she won't run for the U.S. Senate in 2006 against Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow.

"Our party is blessed with many strong candidates who have an outstanding chance of taking back this Senate seat," Miller said in a news release. "It is important to make this decision early so other candidates can prepare for the campaign ahead."

Miller, R-Mich., was considered one of the GOP's best hopes for beating Stabenow, who first was elected in 2000. Last Friday, Miller's spokesman confirmed that President Bush had asked Miller to consider running.
