SS Refuses to Remove Crosses from the List of Prohibited Items at the Pres
Secret Service Refuses to Remove Crosses from the List of Prohibited Items at the Presidential Inaugural Parade Route

http://www.earnedmedia.org/cdc0111b.htm

The Christian Defense Coalition is still moving forward with litigation if crosses remain on the prohibited list.

WASHINGTON, Jan 11 /Christian Wire Service/ -- In a letter sent to the Christian Defense Coalition, the Secret Service said crosses could be worn around the neck or placed on a sign but they would not remove crosses from the list of prohibited items that could be used as a weapon.

In a letter sent back to the Secret Service on January 11th, the Christian Defense Coalition has said this is unacceptable and has the asked the Service to "...eliminate the word "crosses" from the illustrative list of prohibited items."
...
Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, states, "The Secret Service continues to show a profound lack of sensitivity toward the Christian faith by leaving crosses on the list of prohibited items from the Inaugural Parade. This amounts to religious and viewpoint discrimination. It is very troubling for federal law enforcement to suggest the somehow a cross presents a greater danger to national security than other religious symbol. This situation can be settled simply by the Secret Service prohibiting all structures made of wood or metal and not having to discriminate against the most sacred symbol of the Christian faith."

14. I think, most recently
He protested Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter's bid to chair the Judiciary Committee. Mahoney has also come forth to pledge that he and his organization will oppose Rick Santorum (Penn) in his 2006 run (because of Santorum's support of Specter).

should get on their knees and thank the SS. How many people would just love to bring a good sized cross along and play a little tag with the bible thumping xtians.

Kid Rock too vulgar for inauguration?
Some wonder why values voters rewarded with F-word-spewing rapper

Kid Rock, a popular vulgar rock-rapper whose lyrics wouldn't begin to pass muster with the Federal Communications Commission, is headlining the youth concert during the inauguration festivities for President Bush – a politician who was re-elected largely due to the participation of traditional "values voters."

The Detroit-based rapper, who dedicated his first album to songs about oral sex and who was voted the Sluttiest Male Celebrity at the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards, will perform Jan. 18 at the Washington, D.C., Armory in a concert hosted by Bush daughters Jenna and Barbara. Teenage singer JoJo also will appear at the event.
<snip>
Kid Rock's first album, "Grit Sandwiches for Breakfast," fixates on oral sex, including one song, "Yo Da Lin In The Valley," that describes the lyricist's exploits with multiple women in detail. Another similar tune is "Wax the Booty."
<snip>
After reading some of Kid Rock's lyrics, Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families, was outraged the rapper would be a part of the president's festivities.
<snip>
A staff member of the Presidential Inauguration Committee told WND he himself was surprised about the Kid Rock appearance and said someone would provide the newssite with an official statement. No one from the committee returned the call by press time. The committee is reachable via e-mail at info@inaugural05.com.

22. I just find this so disturbing.
Has there been any other presidential inauguration where it even occurred to anyone to bring a large cross to hold up as the president processed by? Why on earth would you bring a cross to a secular, political event? You wouldn't.

That means these people are viewing this inauguration as a religious event. Part of me wishes they could bring their crosses. Maybe the sight of that would finally horrify those moderate Republicans still on speaking terms with rationality.

27. If they bring their 8 foot crosses, can we whip & taunt them?
I'll even bring them sandals & crowns of thorns to wear...

So long as it ends with Bush in as much pain as he has put the country through, it is OK by me.

25. There it is... bring a cross gun
surely a cross can be made to carry a single shot bullet and look
still like a religious cross... perhaps one of jesus's hands can be
the trigger to defeat imperial hubris! :-)

surely jesus was not big on money changers in the temple or mass
murderers killing his folk... would he not have used his cross
to defeat his opponents? Is this not what the nutty christians
themselves say?

26. Sign of their shaky faith? SS bans umbrellas too, it does not mean there
is no rain. Why do these folks have to play the poor victims when they try to shove their fanaticism down everyone else's' throats?

Big news, Mahoney, the United States of America is a SECULAR organization of people, some of whom simply do not subscribe to your beliefs.

And here's another flash Mahoney, the SS is charged with protecting the President, or in this case, the pResident. That means they will not tolerate items which could be used as, or to conceal, a weapon. If bush* is God's chosen, as so many want to believe, then the SS is doing God's work by making people keep their big ass crosses at home for the day. Cuts back on places weapons could be smuggled into a sensitive area.

Mahoney needs to get a clue and stop acting like the SS is nailing Christians to crosses! They are just doing their job and protecting the 'anointed one'. :eyes:
