Bush's fiscal policies draw conservative fire

WASHINGTON -- The increasingly complex and expensive U.S. role in Iraq is drawing predictable fire from Democrats. But it also is unnerving fiscal conservatives uneasy about the mounting costs and a looming half-trillion-dollar deficit.

Bush is expected to get from Congress most of the $87 billion in new funds he requested for Iraq and Afghanistan, though not without a political price. He is coming under increasing pressure from even members of his own party.

Some conservatives want Bush to forgo a $400 billion-plus Medicare prescription drug plan, even though the president last week reaffirmed his strong support for it. Democrats want him to scale back tax cuts.

Bush's perceived complacency toward the soaring deficit is setting off a mini-rebellion among otherwise loyal members of the political right who advocate smaller government.

"It's very clear that the one source of contention between Bush and conservatives now is the inability by the White House to show any fiscal discipline," said Stephen Moore, president of the anti-tax, supply-side Club for Growth.

"And he can't blame Congress for the spending orgy when he has signed every spending bill," said Moore, otherwise a staunch Bush supporter.

5. I'm very impressed with Bush

he simple gets everything he asks for. Anyone ever notice that? I mean like when you trample on everything in your way, when you focus on killing and murder, preemptively, it follows that you will get everything else you want in a democracy--right? This is a joke.

First he steal the election and the votes of the people do not matter, then he sends the military to Afganistan, without offering the simpliest piece of proof that it is Bin Laden who did the 9-11 attack, and then he kills thousands of Afganistan civilians and lo and behold, the pipeline is finally-- secured! Then he makes up stories about Saddam --he attacks and kills, actually he murders, thousands of more civilians, all by lying about it, and acdtually GETS AWAY WITH THE LIE

Now, the most recent headline I read is that one of the biggest liars, Colin Powell, is telling us that "Powell Visits Iraq, Praises Progress "== progress? what is this "progress"? it is so disgusting that I cannot stand to even read about these criminals in charge of the lie department of my own country. "Progress " is praised by Powell, the liar. :puke: :puke: :puke:

11. Oh, I don't think he's going to get everything he asks for anymore

just because he asks for it. His own side is turning on him. Actually, I don't think true "conservatives" have ever been happy with him.

At least now I hope there will be some oversight in Congress over how this war money is being spent. So far this White House has been treating the Constitutional oversight duties of the Congress as a nuisance and arrogantly blowing them off. I think there is some agreement among Dems and Reps alike now that this has to stop and there needs to be some accountability for where this money is going to be spent.

...other than on their personal enrichment. The supposed "investment" in Iraq is beginning to look like a turkey. Notice that they were NOT complaining back in April when it seemed like a sure thing, spend $25 billion or so for control of the second richest oil field in the world. Plus, I'll bet that many are beginning to get the sense that even at its best, the payoff from Bush's Iraq misadventure will only be realized by a select few. Ya gotta pay to play, and I'll wager that many are beginning to realize that they'll never be full-fledged players.

12. It's true! Our conservative Rep. Duncan (R) said he'll vote "No"

on the $87 million request.

He says it's too much, we don't have a plan, and we don't have the money.
