Banker convicted in Enron trial under house arrest
Houston Chronicle
By MARY FLOOD
A high-ranking former Merrill Lynch executive convicted in last year's Enron trial started the New Year under house arrest with a bond ratcheted up to $2 million.

Daniel Bayly, one of five defendants convicted in the Nigerian barge trial in November, as of Dec. 30 had to wear an electronic monitoring device and tell authorities if he wants to leave his Connecticut home.

With the approval of U.S. District Judge Ewing Werlein, the 57-year-old millionaire didn't have to actually hand over more money for his bond. He put up $50,000 months ago, and that bond amount will stand, but should he run, his family would owe $2 million.

The former global head of the investment-banking division at Merrill Lynch, Bayly was singled out because he has so many resources.
