Former Congressman Gary Condit Denies Romantic Affair With Chandra Levy
NEW YORK (AP) - Gary Condit denied in a sworn deposition that he had a romantic affair with slain intern Chandra Levy, insisting "we were friends," but offering few details of their relationship.
The former California congressman was questioned in September as part of an $11 million lawsuit he filed in 2002 against Dominick Dunne, a special correspondent to Vanity Fair. Condit claims that Dunne's statements led millions of people to believe Condit was criminally involved in Levy's death.

Details of the deposition were reported Tuesday on NBC's "Today Show."

When asked to describe his relationship with Levy, Condit said, "We were friends."

3. Wasn't he on important Intelligence Committees

Maybe he was the man who knew too much.

I still think he was involved in the scenerio and that they had a romance.

4. What a creep. I thought he already admitted to a long affair with Ms L.
I don't think he is guilty of anything more than
lying to a young woman for the purpose of sex and ego
and then lying to the public about having done so.
He sure acted guilty during the initial investigation.
I thought he was guilty right up until they found the killer.

10. yeah the killer was found ages and ages ago
The cops just effed this one. The man who is almost certainly the killer has been in prison for two other similar attacks right after he did Levy, but the cops bungled the investigation and screwed up the polygraph and he basically gets a "walk" on the Levy killing. At least the other two women which he attacked in the same manner were not left for dead, and he is serving 10 years for those attacks, so he'll be out of circulation for awhile.

But the media should be ashamed that they smear a man on page one and clear him one page 32. What happened to Condit shouldn't happen to a dog.

20. Thanks

I hadn't heard of this suspect though with his questioning happening in 9/2001 it was a bad time to get much press.

But I did think that Condit had been cleared a long time ago. I thought the damage to his reputation wasn't in people thinking him a killer, but in his being so uncooperative in the investigation early on.

Hope the family gets some answers

24. He was so secretive and uncooperative that he appeared guilty
He looked like a man with something to hide:
an affair with a young woman. He should have come clean about the
affair and aided the investigation.

9. That's kind of sleazy of him
He's calling her a "fuck buddy" in essence. And of course, she's dead, so she can't respond. I don't know about most people, but I hardly think that people at his age and stage in life routinely screw their friends....it may not have been a romantic affair, but it was a sexual affair.

And I have a feeling that she anticipated more from the relationship.

He must be getting ready to write a book or something.

11. I think a married man having a friend with benefits
...is better than a married man pretending he is romantically in love with a young lady just because he wants to get in her pants.

We can speculate all we like about what Levy wanted from the relationship, if it existed, but I'm guessing she knew he was married from the beginning. It wasn't exactly a secret.

People are dogs. People like to get some forbidden sex once in awhile. It shouldn't be a crime equated to murder.

16. I can't argue with your assertion
I just think the "friend" label is a sorry attempt by Condit to absolve or distance himself in some way. Even if he said "Yes, I was having a sexual relationship with the young lady" and left it at that, I might have more respect for him. If he is asked to expound on the characterization, he can use the Bush defense: None of your business.

It's as though he is trying to minimize the entire chapter in his life. The more he minimizes, the less sincere he appears. He was fucking that foolish young lady, so clearly, they must have been good friends, on some level, anyway.

As for the dead woman, yes, she was a nitwit. You don't make yourself more important by poaching someone else's partner, and when you do that, it usually ends badly. Ask Happy Rockefeller, who ran off with Nelson, abandoned her children, and to her horror, discovered her husband had died in the saddle whilst a young woman named Megan Marshack ran, screaming and sobbing in absolute fright, from the love nest (purchased by Nelson, in her name) wearing a negligee and a fur coat.

19. This guy is a karma tar baby
It's like he really wants to be reincarnated as a nematode next time around.

Let's see, he fucked over his wife, his girlfriend, his constituents, and his party. I gave up caring anything about this douchebag a long, long time ago.

Anyone who feels obligated to defend him because he used to have a D after his name ought to remember what happens to those who rassle with the tar baby.
