FDR's Grandson Protests Soc. Security Ad
http://www.guardian.co.uk/worldlatest/story/0,1280,-4731353,00.html

WASHINGTON (AP) - The grandson of Franklin Delano Roosevelt on Thursday protested use of FDR's image in a television ad touting President Bush's plan to partially privatize Social Security.

``My grandfather would surely oppose the ideas now being promoted by this administration and your organization,'' James Roosevelt Jr., wrote in a letter to Progress for America, a private group that supports conservative issues.

Roosevelt, who served as the Social Security Administration's associate commissioner for retirement policy in the Clinton administration, said, ``On behalf of my family, I would ask that you cease using my grandfather's image in your advertising campaign.''

And I would ask that they cease the campaign even without FDR's image!

1. Shrub couldn't carry FDR's jock strap...
I was offended by the use of the image too. I'm glad the Roosevelt family is speaking up.

5. Didn't one of the FDR grandchildren endorse Bush in 2000?
I remember when it happened, but I forget which one, and I don't think that endorsement was repeated in 2004.

24. The Roosevelt family should sue for unauthorized use of
their father/grandfather's image.

Since FDR is probably now a historical figure, the case may get thrown out of court, but that may be the obnly way to get some publicity in the States.

25. Another Lock Box
Do people really think that a personal account is theirs?
That is what they said about the lock box, before Dubbs and Rove tore it inside out. More hibity jibity. And I love the way they are trying to make ss sound like welfare money. If it was a tax all along with no benefit, then why do they stop taxing it at $ 90 k. That is not how the fed inc. tax works. Any way u slice it, it comes out bull crap. They will take that personal account from you too. and at least half of your return from the most positive stock market outcomes possible will be consumed in account maint. fees, bringing you right back down to 3 percent. How stupid do you have to be to go for his. Repubbers running for senate re election know how stupid it is and they are bummin now, because they will get some serious bad breath from the peers if they try not to vote it through. Are they setting up those diebold machines for the election yet?
