GOP Joins Dems, Vets Against Benefit Cuts
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Filed at 9:00 a.m. ET

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Senior Republicans on the House Veterans' Affairs Committee have joined Democrats and veterans groups in a chorus of protest against proposals being considered by the Bush administration to shrink the number of military personnel who qualify for disability benefits.

Changes in the definition of service-connected disability ``could have far-reaching and unintended consequences for millions of servicemembers and veterans,'' wrote the committee chairman, Rep. Christopher Smith, R-N.J., and three of the panel's subcommittee chairmen.

1. This needs to be a major campaign issue
Because Neo-Con pukes shoved it in our faces that us liberals weren't "patriot" because we "didn't" support our troops since we were opposed to the war.

You can't get any more anti-patriotic or anti-troops by cutting benefits to our troops. I for one am planning on writing a letter to my editor today!

3. Any repuke with more than two brain cells,
(which excludes Smirk, of course), would know that cutting veteran's benefits is not only just plain WRONG, but is likely to become a major campaign issue that would backfire horribly against them.

2. The GOP will back Bush as long as it doesn't jepoardize THEIR jobs
Edited on Mon Sep-15-03 08:37 AM by rocknation
Nixon would have had no problem staying in office if GOP support had been there. But the more incriminating Watergate got, the less possible it became to stick by Nixon without being percieved as being stuck TO him. That's why we should let ALL our political representatives know that they CANNOT win on this issue!

6. This affects my family directly!
I hold my breathe everytime this comes up.
My DH is on a disabled vets pension. It's what keeps our family from being homeless. He has severe neck/head damage. The Dr's had to come and meet him because they couldn't believe someone could have such severe neck damage and not be dead or at the least paralized!
I've tried bringing in the dough myself, but around here none of the jobs pay enough to make it worth it and he forgets everything, so if I'm not home to help he's pretty lost.
I've written my Senators. What else can I/we do?
I want/need to do something because I know other families who will be affected by this too.

7. No - no principled Repukes
They are playing their games again. Vets are furious at the administration. Repukes are trying to figure a way out of this and save face for themselves and deserter bush. If they can come out looking okay with the public, they will do it - just keep most of it hidden behind the scenes. There is major battling going on behind the scenes - but only to keep bush from looking like the bastard he is. Concurrent Receipt and CRSC are the topics - also Title 38 - what a miserable mess the Repukes have created.
