Indonesia blocks tsunami orphans from being placed in non-Muslim homes
http://www.kfor.com/Global/story.asp?S=2808198

An American mission agency says it has stopped raising money to place 300 Muslim orphans from tsunami-stricken Indonesia in a Christian orphanage.

WorldHelp says it will comply with a ban issued by the Indonesian government.

WorldHelp President Vernon Brewer says, "The climate has changed" and the children are no longer available to be placed in a "non-Muslim children's home."

Many major religious charities forbid their workers from proselytizing, but a few lesser-known evangelical groups are presenting the tsunami fund-raising efforts as a chance to convert people to Christianity.

1. And Florida prevents gay people from adopting....
...as do a bunch of other states.

Sad when religion is more important than just helping children.

2. Is Vernon Brewer going to return the money he took?
Or was all of this a PR stunt to entice fundies to contribute to him?

3. Ding-Ding-Ding... we have a winner.. AND
it was just another "trick" to get the fundies all fired up with indignant (and FAKE) outrage.

This way the "mooslims" can be portrayed as the people standing in the way of these "poor children's salvation"..:puke:

9. Would you kindly explain?
:bounce:

I'll betcha' it'll be far more difficult to separate east from west, north from south,...than you think.

Your post did immediately bring to my mind something Gandhi said about "western civilization" though *LOL*. He looked forward to that day.

11. Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
Edited on Thu Jan-13-05 10:36 PM by baba
These are the three "major" monotheistic religions, and are considered to be in the "Western" religious tradition coming out of the Middle East. These religions have common origins. The "Eastern" religious tradition came out of Asia. Of course, it doesn't make much sense in the modern context, as so many Muslims live in Asia.

On edit: I think it goes like this.

Reporter: "Mr. Ghandi, what do you think of Western civilization?"

Ghandi: "I think it would be a good idea!"

6. Judaism bars proselytizing
and if one wants to convert to Judaism, one will hear the rabbi try to dissuade you thrice from converting. It's in the rules!

12. I remember that from "Sex and the City."
One of the characters wants to convert to Judaism, and she is turned down three times by the rabbi!

8. "They know not what they do."

These "Christian Crusaders" are misguided. They are as most every human being seeking to overcome his/her sense of powerlessness,...and latch on to whatever "influence/leadership/counsel" which makes them feel special and worthy.

One freakin' sentence in a book full of inconsistencies and confusion and pain and miracles,...and profit-seeking, control-freak preachers take advantage of it,...practically rename the "Holy Bible" to mean that one sentence.

I feel sorry for both these desperate, wanting people seeking a divine purpose, intending to do good,...and being duped by so much bullshit. I feel sorry for all those who are told that they either accept "Jesus" (what amounts to mans' abuse/misuse of a spiritual vision) or be worse than nothing,...be devoured by fires forever.

Unbelievable. Jesus must be weeping,...has been weeping,...over such bullshit abuse of the vision he tried to deliver. Makes me sick. Makes me a deist with great respect for visionaries, ALL visionaries.
