U.S. Tank, Iraqi Bus Collide, killing six of the bus passengers
BAGHDAD, Iraq - An Iraqi bus collided with a U.S. tank that was on patrol Friday, killing six of the bus passengers and injuring eight, the U.S. military said.

The minibus carrying Iraqi passengers had moved into the lane for oncoming traffic to try to pass a slow vehicle, said Maj. Neal O'Brien, spokesman for the U.S. Army's 1st Infantry Division.

The bus smashed into the front of the tank as the tank driver tried to veer out of the way, O'Brien said.

The 1st Division tank crew, which had been on patrol in the city of Muqdadiyah north of Baghdad, stopped to try to treat the wounded, the spokesman said.

1. And because we've committed all the other atrocities in Iraq
an accident such as this will be viewed by the world as the US's fault. This is why things like the Geneva convention are important, why the US should have held itself to a higher standard.
Of course, all that is assuming that this report is accurate and it really was the bus drivers fault...

2. Well, people will ask what the tank was doing there anyway.
Oh yea, I remember now; WMD.

3. Oops. So sorry.
Just a few more brown people, anyway. We'll pay their families a hundred bucks or so and forget all about it.

And hey, the Iraqi families should be proud that they had relatives who could be counted in the statistics of The Great March to Freedom.

No omelettes without broken eggs and all that.

I think I'll go throw up now.

4. Ok, let's go over this
The minibus carrying Iraqi passengers had moved into the
lane for oncoming traffic-

And, as it was moving into this lane
the driver was doing what.
I mean, how hard is it to notice an m1a1 battle tank
heading towards you.
Next, why wouldn't the tank think this was a suicide
bus bomb and blow it away.

-to try to pass a slow vehicle, said
Maj. Neal O'Brien, spokesman for the U.S. Army's 1st
Infantry Division.

The bus smashed into the front of the tank as the tank driver
tried to veer ( a tank veering?) out of the way, O'Brien said.

Just too cynical.

5. Join the club!
I would much rather hear a version of this story from an Iraqi eyewitness.
