Huge’ avalanche near Utah ski resort
PARK CITY, Utah - An avalanche outside a Utah ski resort on Friday trapped as many as five people beneath as much as 30 feet of snow, authorities said.

Based on eyewitness accounts of the slide, Summit County Sheriff Dave Edmunds estimated late Friday that between two and five people were trapped. He discounted earlier reports that as many as 15 people were buried.

No bodies or survivors had been found in the avalanche, which was about 500 yards wide and happened outside the boundary of The Canyons resort on federal land in the Wasatch-Cache National Forest.

About 100 search and rescue workers, rescue dog crews and members of ski patrols from Summit County resorts searched the area for victims, Edmunds said. The enormity of the slide was underscored when rescuers, working on 30-degree slopes, found that their 20-foot probes weren’t going deep enough into the snow.<snip>

2. It's amazing how quickly the resort is pushing the responsibility
away from themselves... makes them look a bit more guilty.

3. Where do you get that?
The article I read said the area was out of bounds and marked as such and was marked as a dangerous area.

I guess for you if someone gets hurt there must be a corporation somewhere to blame?

I know many people who work the ski patrol for major resorts. They take their job very seriously. They continually take classes on first aid and avalanche rescue techniques as well as undergo continuous practice during the season while on duty for that eventuality.

They go to seminars on avalanche conditions and contunually sample the snow to test it. If the ski patrol manager says the snow conditions are too dangerous the resort closes those lifts and areas.

I also lost a friend on the ski patrol in an avalanche - he was testing a slope to see how stable it was when it gave way - testing it so no customer would get hurt.

The first people searching for survivors are the patrol members who are employees of the resort according to this report. Or did you even read it? Maybe you should engage your brain before your mouth next time.

6. No doubt it's the judgment of The Lord...
Remember? The tsunami came b/c there are unrepentant moslems in Indonesia. So there must be someone in Utah that God is angry at. Yup, that's it.
