Bush looks to history books with slaughter of sacred cows
Bush looks to history books with slaughter of sacred cows

ALEX MASSIE
IN WASHINGTON

WHEN George Bush is sworn in this Thursday for a second term in office, he will use his inauguration speech to emphasise his belief that "liberty is powerful and freedom is peace".

But even as he hails the prospect of elections in Iraq and the sacrifices made by American servicemen, Bush will also remind his audience of the far-reaching, radical goals he has in mind for domestic politics. With one eye on the history books, the President believes greatness only comes from confronting great issues.

snip

Meanwhile, Democrats will recall the President’s declaration after his election victory that "I earned capital in the campaign, political capital - and now I intend to spend it".

snip

Nonetheless, no president in recent times has declared an ambition to slaughter as many sacred cows: immigration, social security, tort reform and the tax code are all on the chopping block. All these, plus cutting the federal deficit in half.

1. Haven't we figured it out yet?
The chimp is delusional. He truly thinks that anything he thinks is true and will come true.

7. Slaughter is the correct word.
He knows he can do it. He slaughters everything he attempts. I have worked in companies with totally incompetent management and by the time 'the powers that be' stopped them, they had done huge damage to the company. I expect nothing less from bush.

9. I immediately thought of that red bull business when I read the headline
There is some prophecy about a red bull being born in Israel that will herald the rapture. The fact that was my first thought says something about the Bush administration.

25. Heifer.
It is a red heifer and there are idiots in Texas trying to breed one, has something to do with Temple Mount, the Al something another mosque, Armageddon and the second coming. I don't follow middle Eastern fairy tales (i.e., religion) much but there have been several articles on the Web about all this craziness.

27. Yeah, that's the story.
It would be preferable to not have to keep up with these bizarre stories, but too many influential people take them seriously. I don't set much stock in prophecy, but I do believe in self fulfilling prophecy.

13. "I don't know. We'll all be dead."
is what Bush responded when asked how history will remember him.

However, before his natural life is over, Bush will likely be the first president in American history prosecuted and convicted for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Bush needs to watch closely what has happened to Pinochet in his old age.

23. You know, I've been thinking about that statement Bush made,
about it not really mattering what history says because "we'll all be dead". That does not sound like something a believing, practicing Christian would say. It implies that when we are dead, we are dead and that there is no cognition, or even existence, afterward. I really believe that he is not a Christian, at all - it just furthers his politics and no more. Of course, his actions have never been those of a Christian - I asked my fundie mother to name one thing that Bush has done that could be considered a "Christian act" and she could not name one. But often real Christian speak and behave in a way that would make one doubt their Christianity, but never would one say that something doesn't matter because one day we will be dead. It just doesn't scan...

31. Not surprising. He just said that "Words SOMETIMES have consequences."
in that bit where he wanted to look like he was apologetic for "Bring it on" and "Dead or alive."

Dumbass hasn't learned what most people learn by their teen years that there are consequence to everything. When you are the POTUS, every damn liitle thing you do has consequences. Cut a loud fart in earshot of the people and it will get noticed by a nation, if not the world.

* never progressed beyond childhood in mental stature and so makes the ideal sock puppet for the GOP. He fully belives everything he has been most recently allowed to hear from people in authority and is kept isolated from any dissenting views. He does not form any opinions based on his own critical thinking, he merely adopts the viewpoint of whoever tells him something. He is probably fed his policy points for the next day as a bedtime story. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that he gets milk and a cookie as snack right before he is tucked in for the night with a story.

14. The pitiful attempt to establish himself as a great leader
Edited on Sat Jan-15-05 08:55 PM by teryang
He is but the stooge of much stronger and ruthless individuals. When his father passes from the scene, he will soon follow out of history, only the object of ridicule and contempt.

He is the Don Quixote of great leaders.

bush is the personifecation of the Peter Principle, maybe even one step further than it's supposed to go.
Can't wait for the impeachment prodeedings, preferably after Cheney expires from an attack of good conscience.

26. "liberty is powerful and freedom is peace"
What the f* is that supposed to mean? It's like they wake him up once a week to mutter this incomprehensible bullshit to us. Seriously, somebody tell me what this sentence means! There is no substantive content to that statement at all. He's merely using four buzzwords in one sentence. Must be a set of hypnotic trigger associations meant to enhance his prednesential image.

Or just more of Bush's mindless nascar-babble.

28. Bush is a Siren, go look up your Greek myths. Worse, the idiot*
thinks he's a uniter. I wish he'd open his damn eyes and look.

War is peace. Death is life. Vanilla is Chocolate. * is a duncel; he will go to far.

Not just a duncel. A wilfully naive one. If he thinks he's got a huge victory, even though the amount of people who liked him at the time was hardly more than those who don't like him... and since the election, his approval had dipped... he's got huge mental problems.

A civil war? Given how * is "running" things, it seems inevitable. It's been 4 years; we've seen no uniting principle. Only more division. From capitalistic to moral to ethical to morale, * is ripping things to shreads. He is no leader.
