Police dealing with 'security situation' south of Kuwait

KUWAIT CITY (AP): A shootout took place Saturday between police and "armed men'' in the south of the country, the state-run Kuwait News Agency reported.

The agency quoted an unidentified security source as saying the number and identities of the men have not been disclosed.

KUNA said the exchange of gunfire occurred at Umm al-Haiman, which is near the border with Saudi Arabia. It provided no further details.

Interior Ministry officials refused to comment. One of them contacted by The Associated Press said only that he would provide information later.
