Coastal Bend officials heard plan to hire DeLay's brother

A Democratic congressman suggested that local officials hire the brother of House Majority Leader Tom DeLay to lobby against the closure of South Texas military bases, according to officials.

Four people who heard the plan presented by U.S. Rep. Solomon Ortiz told the Corpus Christi Caller-Times in Sunday's editions that after Nueces County hired lobbyist Randy DeLay, he would work for the nomination of members of a federal base-closing commission who would favor South Texas bases.

Nueces County commissioners first decided unanimously to spend $1.2 million for a three-year contract with Washington lobbyist Randy DeLay's firm, but then reversed course last year, killing Ortiz's plan.

One county commissioner, Chuck Cazalas, said Ortiz and his chief of staff presented a plan to have the lobbyist contact his brother, the second-ranking Republican in the House, to intercede with Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill.

1. We know these people are buying access. That's what the Bush
inauguration fund is all about. So why are we shocked when they come out and ask for the bribes?

Republicans know how to talk the talk of ethics when there's a Democrat in office, but they are the biggest crooks this country has ever seen.

2. You know, a smart guy would borrow a million and sprinkle it
around at little awol's coronation. You could make the
money back in spades in a short time.

This Delay connected blurb on the internet news about this will just slide away thanks to the repuke owned MSM..if it was a dem it would be tossed around cable news for a week or more.

4. Solomon Ortiz is a Dem
We are hearing about this a lot in our local paper but the Caller-Times is basically a mouthpiece for the Chamber of Commerce. Keeping the bases is for them automatically a good thing. I think, though, that if they are not useful anymore they should go.

6. Chamber of Commerce. There's another organization that should
be investigated.

7. Yeah, I know..
I worded my post the wrong way...I just meant that since it involved a possible Delay connection, no one would touch it. The repukes will let it slide even though it was all started by a local dem since they couldn't bring it up without mentioning the Delay name, etc...

8. You are right
They would have to start talking about Delay and his brother (just how did he get that contract anyway?). I don't particularly like Ortiz myself, but I don't know if he is crooked. I am sure that somehow this would end up being the Dems fault at least according to the media.
