A U.S. soldier was killed Sunday when an armored vehicle flipped and plunged into a canal in western Baghdad.

As of Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, at least 1,363 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. At least 1,071 died as a result of hostile action, the Defense Department said. The figures include three military civilians.

The AP count is five higher than the Defense Department's tally, last updated at 10 a.m. Friday.

2. he doesn`t count...
he could have died in the same way in the united states.he could have been driving along the chicago sanitary canal in his armored vehicle and flipped right in. makes perfect sense now doesn`t it.....

I can't remember whether it was Los Angeles or some other city that is less safe than Baghdad according to Rumsfeld. And it was the same vase 40 times.

3. Amazing how often military vehicles plunge into canals in Iraq.
I am sure I have read of similar incidents dozens of times. It makes you wonder what the full stories are in these cases.

4. Run off the road, would be my guess.
Just because something is a vehicular accident doesn't mean it didn't have a combat cause.
