Police: Marine who killed cop was gang member

CERES, Calif. (AP) - The Marine who shot and killed one Ceres police officer and wounded another one was a gang member who was high on cocaine at the time of the shootings, police said.

Investigators now are discounting the theory that Lance Cpl. Andres Raya, 19, may have been suffering from post-traumatic stress and instigated a "suicide by cop" - provoking officers to shoot him - because he did not want to return to Iraq.

"During our investigation, we found he wasn't due to go back to Iraq, never faced combat situations and never even fired his gun," Stanislaus County Sheriff's Deputy Jason Woodman said Saturday.

Raya shot and killed Ceres police Sgt. Howard "Howie" Stevenson and wounded Officer Sam Ryno with a semiautomatic rifle outside a Ceres liquor store Sunday night before police returned fire and killed him.

And WTF do the Cops know about the stressors that brought about this guy's PTSD anyway?

Ive always respected you and your views because you seem to have been there and done that, but this is beneath you.

First off, whatever this guy was, first and foremost, he was a murderer.

Second, his unit had seen NO action in Iraq. The cops know about the alleged PTSD because they have conducted investigations of the individual. Regardless of your opinion, if the truth is what it is, then thats what it is.

Third, he wasnt set to go back.

As someone that has extensive knowledge with regard to gangs and how they operate, this story is a common one. Large, organized, highly structured gangs such as Norteno (Mexican Mafia) have been infiltrating the US military for years. Many times they obtain explosives, vests, weapons etc. This may sound familiar as activists did this during your time (Think Black Panthers).

Not all cops are bad guys and not all people killed by them are good.
