Variety: "Celebs" dress for Bush Bash
Edited on Mon Jan-17-05 03:38 PM by villager
Variety's partial rundown on kool-aid slurping "celebrities"

Celebs dress for Bush bash
Who's getting a D.C. invite?

By WILLIAM TRIPLETT

WASHINGTON -- The presidential inaugural committee has settled on its final list of celebrities and entertainers coming to Washington this week to participate in festivities associated with President Bush's swearing-in for a second term. Among those taking leading roles in the two days of events are former "Frasier" star Kelsey Grammer, former Nixon staffer cum actor-comedian-gameshow host Ben Stein, teen idol Hilary Duff, country singer Kenny Chesney and boxing promoter Don King.

Theme of the inaugural festivities is "Celebrating Freedom, Honoring Service." Others scheduled to attend include Cuban-born singer Gloria Estefan, soul singer Bebe Winans, old-school R&BR&B stars the Temptations, country crooners the Gatlin Brothers, actor Richard Roundtree, astronaut Buzz Aldrin, NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes.

Kid Rock, who supported the president's re-election and had first twins Barbara and Jenna Bush and other young conservatives kicking out the jams during his performance at the Republican National Convention last summer, will be absent from the festivities. When rumors recently surfaced that the Detroit rock-rapper with the less-than-wholesome image might be joining the ranks of entertainers at an inaugural youth concert Barbara was organizing, the president's staunchly conservative supporters objected, forcing the inaugural committee to issue a statement saying that the Kid "was never booked."

The youth concert will be headlined by Duff with an assist from pop star JoJo and "American Idol" winner Ruben Studdard as well as the rock groups 3 Doors Down and Boxkar. Guests at the Black Tie & Boots Ball -- a private affair underwritten by the president's fellow Texans -- will be swinging to the tunes of Lyle Lovett and Asleep at the Wheel. The nine public balls will be entertained by the Tommy Dorsey and Guy Lombardo orchestras, among others.

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is not on the guest list -- yet.

20. Ben Stein on Social Security, for an example
The point is, making sure you have a swell retirement is up to you. Not to Uncle Sam, usually not to your employer, not to your kids. You have to max out your IRA’s, your Keoghs, your 401K’s and do it sensibly, and then some. And you have to start with that all important plan.

Edited on Mon Jan-17-05 03:42 PM by CBHagman
I know Ben Stein has that loveable nerd thing going, that he reminds us all of the brainy but nice classmate we had in high school, but he certainly has a "let 'em eat cake" attitude when it comes to retirement savings. Does he know what it's like to get into debt when even one member of the family falls ill or has an accident? What about layoffs? What about those of us who don't make a lawyer's salary or have connections to GOP circles or get product endorsement offers? It's easy to proclaim that everyone needs a good financial adviser and the discipline to put aside at least $500 a month, but I have a news flash from Planet Earth: Most people don't live that way, not even in the wealthy United States.

Aiken = supported John Kerry
Studdard = supported Bush

Aiken = sold 2 million albums in debut
Studdard = sold 20,000 albums in debut

Aiken = appeared in own Christmas special
Studdard = shared Christmas special with two other 'idols'

Aiken = cool
Studdard = fat boring bastard

Do you have quotes for either? Ruben performing for Bush doesn't mean he supports him, just like Mandy Moore performing for Bush doesn't mean she supported him (she was for Kerry, but people thought she was for Bush because she sang for him).

95. Here's some clues although not proof exactly
He's a registered Democrat who describes himself as progressive in his book. He's a big admirer of Jimmy Carter and Tom Harkin.

His friends say he's very liberal. A few of them used to post on TWOP during AMERICAN IDOL2, and someone once posted that Aiken was no doubt a conservative. His friend Meredith wrote, no, he was liberal, very liberal, in fact. She said it was the reason they became friends since there weren't that many of them around where they were.

I don't like Jojo, but she's a Dem. Some of the others may be too.

When Mandy Moore performed for Bush, everyone thought she was a supporter and she got pissed because of that.

Q: Speaking of knowing what you deserve, you've been really active in encouraging people to vote and voice their political opinions, which is interesting since you're not old enough to vote yet. If you were 18, who would you cast your ballot for?

A: Well, let me just say this: I don't agree with the things that Bush has done in office. I'll leave it at that.

52. Celebs, the Cadillac, and Laura's Defense of Lavishness all remind me of
The Parable of A Permit for Prostitution

<<When a woman seeks a permit to establish herself as a public prostitute, this is comical.

We properly feel that it is difficult to become something respectable (so that when a woman is refused consent to become Secretary of State, for instance, this is not comical), but to be refused permission to become something despicable, is a contradiction.

To be sure, if she receives permission to become a prostitute, it is comical, but the contradiction is different, namely, that the government authority shows its impotence precisely when it shows its power:

Its power in giving permission, its impotence by not being able to make it consentual.>>

Borrowed from Kierkegaard
Johanne Climacus's Concluding
Unscientific Postscript

So, the people of Washington, DC are robbed of taxpayer dollars to pay for the conference of lavish prostitutes...without their consent. The joys of which are defended by the First Lady.

Yet, the Kid "was never booked."

....Hollywood is corrupt and evil, actors are vain and evil, artists are selfish and evil, celebrity athletes are stupid and evil, rock 'n' roll is evil and evil.......

UNLESS the producers, directors, actors, artists, celebrity athletes, and musicians in question are Republican. THEN they're just plain ol' good Americans.

67. Not all of these entertainers are *ush supporters, you know.
That group said to be taking "leading roles" are ALL declared kool-aid drinkers, that's for sure -- Kelsey Grammer, Ben Stein, Hilary Duff, Kenny Chesney and Don King. But the others --

I know for a fact that Lyle Lovett isn't a Republican. Bebe Winans performed at the Democratic Convention in Boston, and Gloria Estefan performed for Bill Clinton's inaugural festivities. Didn't Dale Earnhardt, Jr. endorse Michael Moore's F/911?

Now the Gatlin Brothers have been drinking the kool-aid for years, as has Buzz Aldrin. I think there's only one surviving member of the "Temptations", so I'm not sure who these people are.

Ruben Studdard is probably just happy to get a gig.

Edited on Mon Jan-17-05 06:01 PM by zbird
snip...
Are NASCAR fans Republicans? “Yeah,” he says. Are they white? “Majority. It’s changing more and more,” says Earnhardt Jr. “But you still go to the races and you still see the rebel flags in the infield. You still see, you know, the aggressive Southeast a little bit at the racetrack. ...You know, the guy that still flies his rebel flag pretty proudly.”

But Earnhardt Jr. says he’s not like that: “It never really was me.”

Politically, Junior does side with a voting block known as NASCAR dads. He’s a Republican and he supports George W. Bush. Yet, he took his crew to see Michael Moore’s movie, “Fahrenheit 9/11.” Why?

“I like hearing both sides of the argument. I thought the movie was well done. But my dad was a Republican, and I'm a Republican, and so not that I came out of there going, ‘I ain't voting for Bush again,’” says Earnhardt Jr. “That didn't happen, and I didn't expect that to happen. I just wanted to go and enjoy the movie. Because I knew Michael Moore would try to push a few buttons. And I just wanted to see how hard he mashed them.”

It's the old "daddy was a Repug and I wanna be just like my daddy" thing going on. IIRC, Jeff Gordon is the only major Nascar driver who didn't publicly support * (or Kerry, for that matter).

usually to be asked to participate in a Presidential inaugural but in this case ... it's no honor. For one thing I don't see it as an honor when the big celebs have turned it down and they move further and further down the list. Everyone should turn this maniac down, no Democrat should participate in the farce. Any Democrat who participates is no better than a repuke and might as well join that party. x(

109. FOR ALL THE WRONG REASONS
I recently read this article on
www.thecatholicchallenge.com/768articles.htm
Any comments or opinions?

FOR THE WRONG REASONS

by Thomas W. Rezanka, Esq.

Some people voted for George Bush because he was anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage. Some voted for him because they refused to believe that he lied America into the war with Iraq. Some voted for him because they couldnít quite warm-up to John Kerry. Some voted for George Bush because their prejudice would not let them vote for a Catholic. Some voted for George Bush even though they donít agree with a great many of his decisions. Some voted for George Bush because he is a Republican, and if the Republican Party ran a monkey, this voter would still vote Republican. Some voted for George Bush because we are at war, and they believe that we should not change Presidents in mid-stream. Some voted for George Bush because they believe the big lie advanced by the U.S. Catholic Bishops that voting for John Kerry, a pro-choice candidate, was a sin. Some voted for George Bush because he is more like them. Some voted for George Bush because he is adamant about his positions. Some voted for George Bush even though they recognized that a man who never admits that he is wrong can be a dangerous leader. Some voted for George Bush because the responsibilities of their jobs and family keep them from reading a daily paper or from watching the news each night. Some voted for George Bush because they are inherently selfish and would never consider what is best for their community or their nation as a whole. Some voted for George Bush because they refuse to believe that his administrative rule changes or lack of enforcement of laws or rules (which were put into place to protect all of us) is now actually endangering our health and general welfare. Some voted for George Bush because they are not concerned that 44 million Americans are without health insurance or that over the last 3.5 years between 3 to 5 million more Americans are now classified as living in poverty. Some voted for George Bush because they never heard he wanted to re-classify mercury as a non-toxic or less toxic substance. Some voted for George Bush because of pride; the pride that tells you we are Americans, we donít have to consider the views of people outside of our country who disagree with us or who despise our leader. Some voted for George Bush because he ran the most deceptive political advertising in our history, which deflected attention from his own dismal record. Some voted for George Bush because they believe he is right. Some people voted for George Bush because they are unaware of the number of political appointments that he made of people from industry who are now regulating those same industries. Unfortunately for all of us as Americans, this means that George W. Bush was re-elected mostly for all of the wrong reasons. The question now is: Are we going to actively participate in what our President and other elected representatives are doing?
