Robert Kennedy Jr. eyeing state attorney general's race
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Environmental lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is considering a possible run for state attorney general in New York and has talked to top state Democrats about such a race, people familiar with those conversations said Monday.

Among those consulted by Kennedy, a son of slain New York Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, are Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and current Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, said the people familiar with the talks. They spoke only on condition of anonymity.

The younger Kennedy has been active in New York politics and briefly considered running for the U.S. Senate seat won by Clinton in 2000. The seat was held by the late Daniel Patrick Moynihan, who announced in late 1998 that he would not run for re-election.

"It's a seat that I would love to occupy," Kennedy said at the time, "but I have five young kids."

1. imagine Eliot Spitzer as Governor and Robert Kennedy Jr as Attorney
General with Senators Schumer and Clinton. and hopefully nyc can get rid of Bloomberg and put in a Democratic Mayor into that big Democratic City.

5. Andrew Cuomo is also considering a run for Atty General

Even though he and Kennedy are brothers-in-law, evidently there is bad blood.

I imagine Mark Green will get buried in the ashes of the flame-fest a Kennedy-Cuomo race will generate.

7. hopefully
they work something out behind the scenes so we can avoid any nasty primary which tends to hurt us in the general elections when whoever our candidate ends up being runs against the Republicans.

4. Mark Green has run frequently in New York....
He can ofter win the nomination, but he doesn't seem to be able to close the deal:

1980 lost a congressional race
1986 lost US senate race to D'Amato
1998 lost senate primary to Charles Schumer
2001 lost New York City mayors race to Bloomberg

Not sure he's the best person for the nomination.

9. Understood...
I just meant that I've allowed myself to get excited about Green too many times in the past. Maybe its just bad luck, but he can never seem to pull it off, even when it seems like a sure thing.

12. I, for one, would LOVE to see RFK Jr. enter elective politics . . .
and NYS Attorney General would be a great starting point . . . having a dedicated environmentalist in that position would be a great asset to the state . . . and having his voice in the public arena as an elected official would help the environmental cause immensely, imo . . .

16. Same here, OneBlueSky.
Really appreciate your post.

I'm a progressive voter because of this guy's father. And there is an awful lot to like about RK Jr.'s environmental record.

15. Does anyone know if Senator Clinton runs for president in 2008 --
-- if she will run for re-election to the senate in 2006?

Or, if she does run for re-election to the senate, and wins, can she run simultaneously for president in 2008?

If she were not running for re-election that becomes an open seat, doesn't it? She would fill out her term and then NY voters would have an open race.

Robert Kennedy Jr. could go for that and let Green and Cuomo duke it out for the AG race.
