World Trade Center Restaurant Reopens
World Trade Center Restaurant Reopens

10:28 am EST January 19, 2005

NEW YORK -- It won't offer the same views that Windows on the World did, but a new restaurant in New York City will give some 9/11 survivors a new future.

The owners are 34 immigrant workers who lost their jobs and some friends the day their restaurant atop the World Trade Center's north tower was destroyed. The new eatery will be called "Colors," located in Greenwich Village.

The workers are getting help from a nonprofit co-op that's handling the $21,000 per month rent.

One waiter said "Colors" will not have mementos from Windows on the World. He said the owners won't forget their 73 co-workers who died on 9/11, but they don't want to attract customers with sympathy. He said they want a steady business based on good food and a good atmosphere.

1. I'd like to go...
since I work in the Village, I'd like to see them succeed... Windows on the World is one of my favorite memories from the WTC... I may be in the minority, but I'm one of those New Yawkers who wishes they just rebuilt the darn things...

2. Yeah, I know what you mean.
The Village is one of my favourite places - on a cold morning I want to be in Cafe Reggio - though it's been too long since I've visited.

Good luck to Colors.

3. On a cold snowy afternoon, I want to be at
Angler's & Writers or right next to the pot-bellied stove at McSorley's. In fact, it's snowing now so......
