U.S.'s Rice acknowledges some bad Iraq decisions
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N19313071.htm

WASHINGTON, Jan 19 (Reuters) - Secretary of State-designate Condoleezza Rice said on Wednesday the Bush administration made some bad decisions in Iraq and was unprepared for stabilizing the country in a rare acknowledgment of mistakes.

But Democrats complained the Republican President George W. Bush's administration was unwilling to learn from its mistakes to change policies in Iraq, be candid about the cost of continued deployment and develop a better exit strategy.

"We have made a lot of decisions in this period of time. Some of them have been good, some of them have not been good, some of them have been bad decisions, I am sure," Rice told the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee. snip

Rice's acknowledgment of mistakes followed criticism her testimony on Tuesday belied the reality on the ground, where a raging insurgency has repeatedly delayed the training of Iraqi forces who would eventually take over from U.S. troops.

1. We shouldn't have taken pictures.
That's what I expected her to say. That's more in line with the administration's idea of acknowledging a mistake.

So, if someone walks into a McDonald's and starts shooting people, that's a mistake according to this logic, and they should be reprimanded and then awarded the Medal of Freedom. :eyes:

4. Now, Condi, none of your famous false modesty.
You know you did it all absolutely perfectly and any bad news isn't your fault.

would have been a good idea too. A failure like that doesn't rate a promotion. In any other administration she would have been out on her ass long ago.

7. Uh...what were the "good decisions"?
"Some of them have been good, some of them have not been good..."

Too bad she didn't get asked specifically what were the good decisions?

In fact, it's too bad she's not being pressed for specifics on anything. Condi is the master of the bland generalization, the non-answer answer. The only way to combat that is to ask her to get specific.

8. Note the "I am sure". Bush used that crap when asked about mistakes.
They tack it on the end there as if to say, "I am sure I have made a mistake or two, since I am human. But they are so small compared to my massive successes that I can't ever think of one, specificly." Condescending bullshit.

13. Oops, our bad
WTF is with these monsters? They made some "bad decisions" ie thousands of Americans dead or wounded, hundreds of thousands of Iraqi dead, good as dead, maimed, homeless, diseased, starving and/or developing a thirst for revenge that will never be quenched..but no one really should be held to account for it.

So I guess its really "oops, our bad, now promote me and lets get on with the gala."

I now truly believe that our country is lost. The Dems rolling over for Rice and Gonzales is just too big. If the Dems vote yes, they are saying that they agree with what these scum did.
