Missiles deployed for inauguration
Missiles deployed for inauguration

By Bill Gertz
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

The military has deployed anti-aircraft missiles within range of the Capitol as part of security enhancements for tomorrow's presidential inauguration.
The missile deployment comes even though the FBI and Homeland Security Department concluded in a recent threat assessment that there is no credible information showing that terrorists have targeted inaugural events.
Army Avenger missile systems, a Humvee-mounted version of the Stinger anti-aircraft missile, were deployed in the weekend at several locations in the Washington area, including the northern tip of Bolling Air Force Base in Southeast.
"It is a NORAD deployment," said Army Maj. Maria Quon, a spokeswoman for the North American Aerospace Defense Command, the joint U.S.-Canadian defense system developed during the Cold War.

22. Police State?
I copied and Pasted this but it didn't come out good and I can't move some words.
Now What America?

An uneasy feeling across our land
Something rotten in this place
There’s a stink asettin’ in
Just sniff the wind that hits your face
Something’s gnawing the foundation
An ominous tapping at the door
I fear I recognize the face---
Orwell’s nineteen eight four?

Chorus The Kyoto protocol Bushwacked
Oil greases the Bush’s war machine
And his oil connected cabinet!
The damndest list you’ve ever seen!
Lotta oil in the Middle East
Bomb that towel headed bunch!
Gobble, gobble what a feast!

America the beautiful
Your first preemptive
War
We used napalm on Safwan Hill*
There were bodies everywhere
We’d better get our act together
Men of honor stand up tall
A house with a bad foundation
Is weakened and will fall

Our waters are polluted
Clean Air Act is down the drain
Holes in the ozone layer
When will Kenny Boy’s prison time begin?
Think back, connect the dots
To a powerful cabal
Secret meetings behind closed doors
Freedom’s bastion ‘bout to fall
chorus

4. Is this costing Canada money?
"It is a NORAD deployment," said Army Maj. Maria Quon, a spokeswoman for the North American Aerospace Defense Command, the joint U.S.-Canadian defense system developed during the Cold War.

I'd really like to know if this paranoia is costing Canada money, especially since they said:

The missile deployment comes even though the FBI and Homeland Security Department concluded in a recent threat assessment that there is no credible information showing that terrorists have targeted inaugural events.

8. Fear Mongering at its worst...
The White House is constantly stoking the fires of fear.

Every time there's a political event--they bring out the big guns--to constantly remind us that we need to stew in a helpless stupor of terror.

Yes, BushCo--we understand that we're under siege and that we should remain trauma bonded to you. And of course, you guys are the only ones who can save us from the big, bad monsters.

It's the stuff of abusers, ladies and gentlemen. Abusive tactics--designed to scare us and then create an unhealthy, fear-based dependence between the White House and it citizens.

16. Aren't they always deployed?
Am I to expect a Russian May Day parade? Will the troops be goose stepping in front of the pResident? Will there be fleets of tanks, and Bradley's and missiles.

We have so much of that stuff its redundant. If I were running a country and I wanted to defeat the U.S., I would do just what Iraq has done...overextend our military with distance and let them attack, then just wage a guerrilla war and let time be my ally.

Edited on Thu Jan-20-05 05:30 AM by sweetheart
I read the headline, and it conjured images of washington surrounded
by a giant stock of ballistic missiles.... huge ones like the ones
i named... and funnily, it IS actually surrounded by those exact
missiles i mentioned.... so i'd say my research is quite impeccable
in this regard, and if the terrorists (read: bush and his neocriminals)
wanted to, they could use their stock of WMD's to turn DC in to a
fireball. Just as they'll be there, its unlikely given that they
usually tend to avoid "pearl harbour" like events they engineer.

It seems irony is lost in an age when no one reads between the lines.

43. What research?
What am I supposed to be reading between the lines, that Bush has the athority to use nuclear weapons? That he's planning on nuking DC? That he planned 9/11? Pearl Harbor? Please come back, the real world needs more serious liberals

49. Of course there is an implied threat to use WMD's
The neocons have long planned as part of the PNAC (project for the new
american century) to invade iraq. They needed a "pearl harbour like
event" as they describe it. This is wolfowitz and the other neocons.
Well, in fact, they are taking the world back in time before the
advent of international law, when the power of military force alone
and balance of imperial interests created the interlocking world...
that lead to world war 2 to start with. So, yes, he is advancing and
extending the empire in a brazen endeavour to provoke enemies in to
attacking america... as he said, "bring em on."

Planned 9/11, no. I do believe that they had foreknowledge and were
willing to look the other way, as they did when they let all their
saudi buddies fly out of the US after the attacks. Lihop (Let it happen
on purpose). So, yes, what i meant by reading between the lines, is
that indeed washington is ringed with several layers of missile
offenses... one is the batteries mentioned in the article, and then
around that is the massive strategic arsenal of nuclear tipped ICBM's
that project a global threat to use WMD's.

Then we have the asswipes making implied threats about china and the
european union ending its embargo for arms sales, with sabre rattling
then for iran, syria, and china, all of which conflicts could become
nuclear quite easily.

So DC has already been nuked and all that is left are half-wits and
ignorant fools who've survived the devastation of the theocratic
trashing of the constitutional republic. And indeed, by threatening
the world with nuclear weapons, bush has increased the likelihood
that washington DC will be nuked. I hope a serious liberal would
recognize that. :-)

36. We had NORAD, anti-aircraft missile batteries on 9/11, yet pentagon was hit
Well, yes, we did have NORAD monitoring every inch of the airspace in real time;

They were in contact with the FAA and the White House via a conference call from around 9AM EST on;

There were automated anti-aircraft missile batteries protecting the White House and the Pentagon;

(The airspace around the Pentagon, is after all, the most heavily defended airspace IN THE WORLD);

Yet with all that, the Pentagon was still hit AN HOUR AND A HALF after the FAA KNEW that Flight 11 was hijacked, 40 minutes after TWO planes had crashed into the towers.
