Committee delays vote on AG nominee (Dems with Spines!)
Committee delays vote on Attorney General nominee
Wednesday, January 19, 2005

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Attorney General designate Alberto Gonzales will have to wait at least another week before getting a Senate committee vote on his nomination to be the nation's top law enforcement officer.
Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee decided Wednesday to ask for a one-week hold on Gonzales' nomination.
Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Massachusetts, said the committee should not vote on Gonzales yet because the nominee has not yet answered all of the Democrats' questions.
Democrats have complained that Gonzales has been evasive with his answers to their questions about White House policies on the war on terror and they want him delayed until they are satisfied.
"If we are to meet our constitutional responsibility in the confirmation process, we must insist that Mr. Gonzales provide responsive answers to these fundamental questions," Kennedy said..

4. Yes, and on Judiciary--same ones who will face the judicial
nominees when Bush gets ready to stack the Supreme Court with wackos.

This is an encouraging sign.

7. Do you hate "Dems" more than you do this neoCONimperialist regime?

Sometimes, I really do wonder what is happening in DU.

Instead of getting galvanized and ushered when there is an identifiable action that helps our common cause,...I see so much,...destructive force which help no one other than the RW regime.

This observation really bothers me,...a LOT!

9. Perhaps you're unfamiliar with the history of the Democratic Party in
the last 8 or so years.

Instead of forcefully backing their own platform, they have, the Dem. leaders have time and time again gone along with the Republican platform for various reasons. One example is the vote authorizing the Iraq War. They have done this not because of what they believe in and strive for, but just because it is so difficult to fight the Republicans in power, and they weren't prepared to do that.

I have looked up the voting records of a number of Republican congressmen and Democratic congressmen. Almost without exception the Republicans vote their party line, straight down the line. They almost never side with the opposing party. In other words, they stick together. And that's how they ended up being in control of all three branches of hte federal government. By contrast, very often the Dem. congressmen voted FOR Republican bills. They did not back/support their fellow Democratic congressmen.

Another example: Congressman John Breaux (D-La), who was a sponsor of the Republican Medicare Reform Act, which benefited the ins. and pharmaceutical companies. Breaux is now being paid by the Bush Admin. by being nominated to some administrative post (I forget what it is).

Yes, I don't mind saying that we need strong Dem. leaders who stick together and stand in favor of the platform they represent. IMO, the lack of such strong leaders is the main reason the Dem. Party is in shambles right now. The goal is to make the Dem. Party stronger, the way it used to be. I don't take the view that offering suggestions and criticizing current leaders is anti-American or anti-Democratic. That is the Republican view of things.
