Probe of Madigan's office ends with no charges

A federal investigation into alleged misconduct by Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan's office has ended with no charges filed, according to a letter from Madigan's attorney.

The letter from Bill Roberts of Springfield, which Madigan's office released Wednesday, said the U.S. attorney's office told him it had ended a 2 1/2-year-old probe.

But federal reviews apparently continue into allegations that other top officeholders used state-paid staff members to work on political campaigns.
