US right attacks SpongeBob video
US right attacks SpongeBob video

Spongebob is popular among adult gay men

US conservative groups are up in arms over a music video featuring children's TV heroes such as the cheerful cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants.
Focus on the Family and other groups say the video - a remake of the Sister Sledge hit, We Are Family - is a vehicle for pro-gay propaganda.

The video's makers plan to mail it to US schools in the spring to promote tolerance and diversity.

They say the attack is based on a misunderstanding.

1. Can somebody please
tell these people in a widely-seen forum that we are sick and tired of having our lives ruled by their fear of EVERYTHING?

2. Oh. My. God.
Shades of Tinky-Winky and Jerry Falwell (remember?).

THEY ARE NUTS!!!! NUTS, I TELL YA! They are OBSESSED with homosexuality!!! OBSESSED!!!!!!!!

What is their major malfunction? It's a freaking CARTOON. And it's funny, too (in my opinion).

He's a fucking fictional cartoon SPONGE. They sure do see demons everywhere, don't they?

REALLY wish the religious right would take the large stick out of their collective asses and calm down a bit.

It's amazing how much power they think cartoons and kids shows have. But then any group of people who think the earth is only 6000 years old, ignoring all evidence to the contrary, have to be into some pretty irrational thinking.

4. And they try to paint us as a bunch of weirdo's and kooks!
These people are obsessed with finding and stamping out the gayness in everything. Does the term :tinfoilhat: sound familiar?

11. What I would like to see
I would like to see every conservative, neoconservative, right-of-center and middle-of-the-roader, on every talk show, on every station, for the next month or two months, be questioned closely about this non-issue, and be forced to say whether they agree with Dr. Dobson and Focus on the Family, or if they think Dobson is some kind of kook.

No fudging. No hedging. No "Well, Dr. Dobson is a fine man and is entitled to his opinion." No way. I want every conservawhacko on the air to have to state without evasion whether they support Dr. Dobson in his crusade or not. And why.

I wonder if that will happen? I mean, it certainly happened last year with the release of Fahrenheit 911. Everyone who could be credibly painted as middle-of-the-road or even slightly left-of-center had to answer whether he or she endorsed or actually believed every frame of the documentary, every out-of-context quote, every carefully edited clip, until Michael Moore was made out to be some kind of raving lunatic.

Well, whores and presstitutes, here's a real-life raving lunatic in Dr. Dobson. He's got a lot of money and a big platform to launch his lunacies. What are you gonna do?

7. Apparently, all the world's ills have been solved...
now they're working on the final details.

For a group that believes the words of the Bible are to be taken literally, they can find a great deal of symbolism in a kid's cartoon. What a bunch of fucktards.

10. They are using the fake "gay" thing-they really object to "community"
Edited on Thu Jan-20-05 10:22 AM by underpants
I hear it all the time on RW talk radio. See they had miserable unloving fathers who were cruel to them to teach them about life (the father's life) and/or to beat them into thinking a certain way*. The "gay" thing is just a marketing device to get everyone who already agrees with them to read what they have to say. It really is about not loving your fellow man and they don't want people to get along-anger and fear are the top of their product line.

*there was a 3 day rage fest on Hannity several months ago having to do with some opinions expressed by an 18 year old girl from Montana. She had some pretty way left ideas and after she spent most of one show on the phone with Hannity the next day he had her father on and berated the guy for allowing his daughter to have these ideals. The father just said ~"Hey she has to figure these things out by herself. At least she has an opinion and is well read on it". The rest of that show and the next day were callers (mostly men) testifying to how horribly their father treated them and what it taught them about the world and people in general (nice huh?) AND how horrible the father was for not BEATING the RIGHT ideals into her. ----I'm not joking it really was that bad.

14. Tinky fucking Winky ALL OVER again.
Ok, I am getting GOD DAMNED SICK of being a scapegoat for hate filled bigots. I honestly believe, before this is all over, I- me, specifically- will end up arming myself to protect my own life from these people in my own country.

OOPS- I'm gay; this isn't "my" country anymore. It's being made more and more clear that I just am. Not. Welcome.

How often was it, again, that one can kick a dog before one get's one's ass bit off?

15. I watch SpongeBob every chance I get--and I love that little guy.
Do you suppose the creators of the cartoon are subverting my heterosexuality and slowly turning me into a gay man?

It could be true because I hear O'Reilly and Limbaugh were recently seen together at the SpongeBob movie. Some witnesses claim the two of them cried on each others' shoulders during the tear-jerking moment of the show.

Damn that homosexual agenda! No one is safe anymore!

:silly:

16. Gawd. Don't they have anything better to do?
Seems to me these people need to get a fucking life already. They spend waaaay too much time worrying about who's loving who and not nearly enough time worrying about real life issues like people going hungry and dying for lack of medical care and medicines.

I have a big news flash for them--SPONGE BOB IS A CARTOON. HE PROBABLY DOESN'T EVEN HAVE A PENIS AND HE DOESN'T HAVE SEX!!!!!

I realize that concept may be a bit beyond some of these wackaloons, but I am just over it.

When Fallwell decided Tinky Winky was gay, I just about died laughing--in part because that is a cartoon made for kids under three years of age. At that age they don't know what gender is--let alone sex.

Now, they think Sponge Bob is gay because a video with him in it uses a song by Sister Sledge??? GET A GRIP ALREADY!!! Gay is the new "Boogie Man" to the fundies, I swear to gawd...

20. Yeah, "We Are Family" is just so gay because
at the height of celebrating our community's successes, we were celebrating FAMILY way before these fanatical nuts tried to make it their own. They're just mad we were first. And sure it's based on a MISUNDERSTANDING, that love thrives beyond some hetero-religious pie-in-the-sky idea of what a family is.

Yes, I love Sponge Bob! Only a gay sponge would dress so well and have such cool friends!;)

24. James Dobson needs more hobbies
Anything to keep his mind off that dreaded "homosexual agenda." :eyes: The ironic thing is, I'm a straight man who finds SpongeBob hilarious (seriously. I have some episodes on DVD and everything!) and none of my gay friends watch him.

Ha! In your face, Focus on the Family!
