protestors (Code Pink) disrupts *'s inaugural address
Edited on Thu Jan-20-05 01:04 PM by no_to_war_economy
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/050120/480/ing14801201727&e=1&ncid=705

from INDYmedia

During Bush's speech, Code Pink held up banners "Bring the troops home" and shouted. Police immediately took them away. After that another group shouted, they were taken away. 2 more protests following that. Members of the audience appluaded the police actions, shouted "USA USA," and some threw snowballs while other people tried to block cameras from covering the protesters. Public radio noted this very briefly, and the CNN noted and covered none of it as far as we can tell.

I wish I were there, even the local news station called because they thought I'd be going. I couldn't go because hubby is out of town and I can't leave the kids alone for two days.

53. Me too!
I was disgusted that CSPan2 stopped coverage here before the protesters finished speaking. They went to the Senate coverage which I thought was going to be a sham anyhow. If any of them do say anything, it is just more words and no real action.

I wish I could have been at the protests.

14. Ah, right of redress of grievances against government...
...continues its downhill course in our country, as we progress in molding ourselves into a more totalitarian state.

Today is called an inauguration, but it is actually a coronation, attended by all of the elected elite of both parties and the numerous moneymen and handlers to which they have become enslaved. Even the loophole allowing unfettered and unethical access and payola for this day points to a premise I begin to hold more strongly with each passing week, to wit:

It's not the liberal elite or the conservative elite we need worry about.

It's the elected elite!

At once separated from the people via their success at the very electoral process that was designed to ensure the people have access, our national pols quickly learn that money and influence are the ways they stay in the opulence of office. They only come "down to our level" when it is time to invent election issues, like a Constitutional ban on gay marriage.

These issues are quickly thrown away once the required votes have been cast to allow another term basking in the rarified air of being a lawmaker or a president.

The masses seem never to catch on.

26. Wasted opportunities
Edited on Thu Jan-20-05 01:48 PM by AuntJen
I have heard a few speakers from ANSWER, including one charismatic guy wearing a tan jumpsuit (Eugene Puryear) but I haven't heard any speeches. Most of what they seem to be talking about is themselves. I can understand the need to energize one's audience, but enough with the chants! I'd love to hear a real barnburner of a speech, something memorable and motivating.

Well, OTOH, I am not up there. I guess I ought to either get up and make speeches - which might be limp and uninteresting - or not complain because other people don't.

-- Edited to put in the name of the speaker in the tan jumpsuit

28. They've been trying to keep all of the protesters
motivated to stay until the phonycade (I mean motorcade)drives by. I agree, too much chanting. Too many people from the crowd speaking about nothing. One kid said "awesome" about 8 times. Some good speakers too.

blocking free press and throwing things gets a pass? Had the protesters been throwing snowballs, you can guarantee they'd be charged with assault.

31. AP story : Protesters Target Bush's Inauguration
By JEANNINE AVERSA, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Anti-war protesters, including some who carried coffin-like cardboard boxes to signify the deaths of U.S. troops in Iraq (news - web sites), descended on the capital Thursday. Some of their chants could be heard as President Bush (news - web sites) delivered his inaugural address.

The chants came toward the end of Bush's speech, and the president continued his address without interruption or any sign that he heard them.

On Capitol Hill, some protesters were briefly detained by police, and then released after Bush finished speaking, said Andrea Buffa, spokeswoman for CodePink: Women for Peace, a social justice peace movement.

CodePink member Jodie Evans said she and other protesters got tickets to the ceremony from members of Congress representing New York and California.

40. Your right

Swearing In The Beast

Christians gather down DC way,
To celebrate Crusader Day.
Prayers and crosses, bells and guns,
Rape and torture is so much fun.

Grand Old Preachers, flush with cash,
From value-voting redneck trash.
They come to sing, "God Kill The Poor."
Wall Steet witches scream with joy.

Hail to the Chief, the Beast, the Boy,
Annoint his horns in bloody oil.
The cold air fills with Hellish hexes,
Satan loves the land of Texas.

Swear in the monster
Swear in the Beast
Put him on the alter
Lay down at his feet

The clock strikes twelve and here he comes,
Blow the trumpets, beat the drums.
Behold the world's biggest thug,
Gawd he has an ugly mug.

Freedom, God and ownership,
The Beast is full of total shit.
But that's okay it's just his job,
He's talking to the Christian mob.

Zombies watch through stitched up eyes,
Holy tongues tell only lies.
Bibles held in bloody hands,
Damnation falls upon this land.

Swear in the monster
Swear in the Beast
Put him on the alter
Hail to the thief

Here come the limos, hail the crook,
The people strain to get a look.
But eyes tear up from all the gases,
Coming out of FREEPERS BIG FAT ASSES.

Protesters come to mourn this day,
Cops with guns keep them away.
Filled with rage and wearing black,
The beast goes by they turn their backs.

TV viewers don't be tardy,
Grab your popcorn, join the party.
At sunset when the sky turns henna,
We sacrifice the virgin Jenna.

Swear in the monster
Swear in the Beast
Put him on the alter
We won't lay at his feet

Written by me....Joanne98

To everybody at the parade.....

To the Freepers..
KISS MY DU ASS
To the protesters
JESUS LOVES YOU
To the Bush-Christians
JESUS HATES YOU
To the DUer's
YOU ROCK

HAPPY CRUSANDER DAY!!!!!!!!!

39. Ironic that Discovery History has a special on Hitler and how
his techniques for control were cult like.

They are saying that the Nazi's believed that they were fight a "Holy War" Sure the Taliban says that to but aren't the evangelicals who condone killing off Muslim nations because they are, "evil" one and the same?

Am I the only one who sees a connection here?

was it done peacefully?? If so, then why were they arrested?? Secondly, and let me put my tin foil hat on here, what happened to those arrested?? Have they been released on bail?? Does anyone know of anyone personally who was arrested today and is still sitting in a jail cell (or god forbid, worse?) tonight??
