Controversy over Villanova memorial |
|
Critics say naming an alcove after a depressive teacher who killed her baby and herself betrays the school's teachings. Villanova is a Catholic university. This could get interesting. http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/news/local/states/pennsylvania/counties/philadelphia_county/philadelphia/10685624.htm

There's something inherently messed up about dedicating public spaces and other memorials to people who were decidedly unable to overcome their obstacles, especially to such a drastic extent.
I've got nothing against compassion; it's just such maudlin tendencies don't strike me as particularly healthy.

Sure, that's an oversimplification. But judging this woman's entire life by her last sad desperate act may also be an oversimplification.
On edit - I don't think anybody should be judged harshly over suicide, but killing the baby is another matter. Many notable people have ended their life with suicide.
