U.S. to Scale Back Tsunami Relief Efforts
U.S. to Scale Back Tsunami Relief Efforts

Jan 20, 12:44 PM (ET)
By LELY T. DJUHARI

BANDA ACEH, Indonesia (AP) - The U.S. military - the largest group aiding tsunami survivors - said Thursday it will immediately begin scaling back its relief operations. A barrage of gunfire sent survivors diving for cover at a refugee camp in an Indonesian region long torn by a war between separatists and the government.

In Japan, nations at a U.N. conference rallied behind plans for a network of buoys to warn of future killer waves in the Indian Ocean.

Adm. Thomas Fargo, commander in chief of the U.S. Pacific Command, said the U.S. military "will start right now transferring functions to the appropriate host nations and international organizations."

2. Chicken shit.
This is even worse than what I ever expected from Bush. Running away from the aid mission. This is just giving the country right to the government that wants to do in the separatists by denying them any aid. And we just go along. It must be professional courtesy...

3. The US should LEAVE ASAP
and let other people sort out their differences.

If they want US deathsquad sodomizer intervention,
then they can damn well ask for it.
Politely.

7. We've fallen from good will
The United States used to be the forefront of international aid missions. We used to be the ones who cleaned up messes and got people back on track.

Now we are the war criminals. Now we are the ones who need policing.

I guess that I'm still stuck in the Clinton era about these things, where we actually helped people. That was what I was referring to.

8. They don't want to help people
who won't accept Jesus into their lives (or be forcefed it).

5. You got that right.
I knew it was empty promises, but I expected longer before the cretins exposed their own lies.

4. Removing military
Is the right move, and then get any american preaching Xtians out!
No matter what their economy is based on, it will be horrible to watch the rebuilding of multi-million $$ resorts, for the world's ultra rich, be the first big money commitment from all donations!
The average workers may find good construction jobs in that, but they and what remains of their families will still be living in a lean-to and eating and drinking donated supplies that cost comparatively little!
We cannot afford a military confrontation in that area at this time when Iran is comming onto the schedule. No doubt the xtians are using possible military threats to attempt to convert people from their faiths.

6. Of course, there's a far more important inauguration to pay for
those folks over there won't be attending the coronation, so why spend any more money on them? (/sarcasm)

9. Are the first two sentences somehow related?
I mean, usually you put related things into a paragraph. Sort of a Grice-thing.

Does the author intend for us to conclude that the US military and the barrage of gunfire are connected, or just want us to draw that conclusion while being able to say later that it certainly wasn't what he (or the editor) intended?

10. US kicked out by Indonesia. They don't seem to want the permanent
military bases that come as a bonus with US "help"
