Kennedy for the green
RFK Jr. woos environmental support in Boys, Girls Club visit.
By Greg Mellen
Staff writer

LONG BEACH — There were two Robert F. Kennedy Jrs. in Long Beach on Wednesday.

The first told charming accessible stories about environmental protection to kids at the Eastman/Fairfield Boys and Girls Club. The second delivered an impassioned discourse on what he sees as ruinous environmental policies enacted by the Bush administration to a roomful of local power brokers.

Kennedy, a well-known environmentalist and son of slain presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy and nephew of President John F. Kennedy, was the keynote speaker at the 10th annual Corporate Luncheon to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Long Beach.

Speaking to a sold-out audience on the top floor of the Union Bank of California Building on Ocean Boulevard, Kennedy was introduced by Skip Keesal, of the firm of Keesal, Young and Logan, which helped underwrite the annual event.

A possible candidate for attorney general in New York, Kennedy is the senior attorney for the National Resources Defense Council and was a driving force behind successful efforts to prosecute polluters and clean up the Hudson River.

2. How about Attorney General of

The United States. Or Director of the EPA. After the present cabal pushes our entire planet toward extinction it will take people like Bobby Jr. - as always- to clean their shit up.

We'll give America 40 years of peace and prosperity, accountability for corporations, fairness, and tolerance and then a hateful movement of narrow-minded ideologues will surface blaming every conceivable problem on a “tyrannical government”. Books by Von Mises, Hayek, and Rothbard will become the rage, militias will form, and books on the Third Reich begin to sell. From there the corporate interests of the bourgeois, the theocratic interests of the 700 club, and the hateful interests of those that remain will merge to give us Republican Domination Nation Part 2.

But between this spell of doom and gloom and the next one, hopefully a vibrant progressive movement will show the world problems can be solved without bombs and that it is a MORAL duty to protect those of weakness, cure the sick, feed the hungry, house the homeless, give those that can’t speak a voice, and that without power power….

While I am highly frustrated with the Democratic Party, my utter contempt for the Republican Party keeps me involved.

4. The Rumor is . . .
. . . he will run for New York State Attorney General, replacing Elliot Spitzer, who will be moving into the governor's mansion.

Things are looking up in the Empire State.

I DREAM of the day a man like Bobby Kennedy, Jr. is an instrumental part of an American administration.

Personally, I want him involved with the EPA...but any voice from this man is fine with me. I have a feeling with the Bush crowd now being enthroned for another 4 years, Bobby Jr. and the NRDC will be some very busy beees...

If we get fair treatment in the press, the nightmare could be averted to some extent.

If you can pickup his book "Crimes Against Nature" i recommend it. Outside of his heavy critique of the * administration, he has a chapter on the media and tells of his own horror stories about getting fair coverage. He was going on TV to talk about environmental policy and actually got pre-empted for a Michael Jackson news story on NBC Nightly News. He also mentioned that CNN told him they wanted "no Bush bashing" and while Bill O'Reilly had him on, they actually put that show on delay (for obvious reasons).

The book is a great read.
