Bush Avoids Iraq in Inaugural Speech (The Scotsman)
http://news.scotsman.com/latest.cfm?id=4026855

US President George Bush made a resounding call for worldwide freedom today but made not a single mention of Iraq in his second inaugural speech.

As he was sworn in for a second four-year term in Washington, Bush warned that for as long as whole regions of the world simmered in tyranny, violence would gather and raise a mortal threat.

But in the first wartime inauguration for more than 30 years, the 43rd President did not specifically mention the war that has cost the United States 150 billion dollars (£80 billion) and claimed at least 1,300 American lives.

...bush quotes, forgettable....

Half a world away from the bloody battle triggered by a US-led invasion of Iraq, President Bush pledged that those living in despair should know that the US would not ignore their oppression or excuse their oppressors. In an indirect acknowledgement of the war, he said: “Because we have acted in the great liberating tradition of this nation, tens of millions have achieved their freedom. And as hope kindles hope, millions more will find it.

3. Denial of the truth,
just more sugar-coating for his speech.

5. The speech did not match the hype
He told everyone it was going to be REALLY, REALLY GOOD, that he was on his 22nd draft of it, that it was going to smoke...everyone expected a JFK moment. Instead, the speech flat-out SUCKED. "Religion, religion, freedom, tyranny...may God bless you and may God watch over the United States of Merica."

The way he pre-touted it, I thought they dragged that ole whore Noonan out of retirement to craft him something Reaganesque, uplifting and dramatic. Instead, it was, like everything he does, a major disappointment.

No history book moment for you, little man!!!

6. All of this "freedom" bullshit to hide the real facts
They invaded Iraq for oil and ME leverage and made up a bullshit story about WMD. When he was eventually forced to "owe up" about the "WMD" story, they instead ginned up the "freedom" bullshit, and it looks like they are going to continue to ride that one.

8. Oh, that!
No need to mention that little war. Why does everyone focus on the negative? Nothing you can do about anyway. I started it and I'm keeping it going. It's good for my political base's defense investments and dividends. Anybody's who's anybody is getting the contracts these days. Americas going broke but our bank accounts are bulging. Too bad for you little people. Savings and hard work are for suckers.
