Insurgents blow up police station (Hit, Iraq)
BAGHDAD, Iraq A dozen gunmen have blown up a police station in the the town of Hit, north of Baghdad.

The station was nearly empty because of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha and no injuries are reported.

Police say insurgents stormed the building, planted explosives and then set them off.

Iraqi police and security forces have been frequent targets for insurgents who consider them collaborators with the American occupiers.

As feared, the level of violence has been increasing in Iraq as the January 30th national elections approach.
