Elementary students try to hijack school bus
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05021/446225.stm

Three 11-year-old boys and a 10-year-old girl tried to hijack their school bus near Punxsutawney this morning.

State police said the four hatched the plot yesterday. Just after 8 a.m. today, one of the boys pulled a knife from a book bag and held it near another student. He demanded driver Janet McQuown, 52, stop and get off the bus.

A police new release says she pulled over along Pine Tree Church Road in Oliver Township and "the knife was removed from the juvenile's possession." It doesn't say how.

The bus, with the hijackers and about 40 other children, arrived safely at Mapleview Elementary, where the unnamed offenders were taken into custody.

That's middle of state Repuke area.

when he'd have to try to spell "Punxsutawney" correctly.

11. What in the world were they going to do with the bus...
...after they ordered off the only person that would be able to drive it? What you suppose their demands would be? "I demand a police escort, and some phonebooks and woodblocks so I can reach the pedals!"
That's just messed up.

23. Yeah..
When I was in grad school in Pittsburgh, my wife was in Penn State. So, every weekend I would take the bus from Pitt to State College. Greyhound would usually take a southern route and I would be the in about 3-3 1/2 hs. Other times I had to take Fullington Trailways and that went through Punxsutawney. The bus stop is right in the plaza where they filmed the movie and I think they stop in front of the hotel featured in the movie.

I can't help but remember that because FT used to take 5 hs to do the 136 miles between Pitt and state college... :-) I come from a "3rd world" country and even us have better bus service than PA.. :-)

Cheers..

27. Bush is stopping terrorism?
How many incidents like this are happening around the country? How many happened in the past? I'd like some statistics on this.

And as for the children, the bus driver probably just grabbed the knife and smacked the kid upside the head. I know that people here generally don't condone spanking children here, but this is one exception that I would have to take. :spank:
