Insurgents Free Eight Chinese Hostages in Iraq

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Insurgents in Iraq (news - web sites) released eight Chinese hostages after China advised its nationals to stay away from the wartorn country.

A video made by the captors and seen by Reuters showed the eight workers, all men, standing or kneeling in two rows in the desert, holding their passports open.

"Based on the goodwill gesture by the Chinese government, which included a state ban on Chinese entering Iraq, the Numaan Brigades have decided to release the eight," the speaker on the tape said.

4. video grab: They are shaking hands!

A video grab taken from al-Arabiya channel shows a hooded man shaking hands with a former chinese hostage as others look on after their release at un undisclosed location in Iraq (news - web sites). Militants freed eight Chinese hostages but said in a website that they had slain 15 Iraqi soldiers being held captive, after at least 27 people died in two car bomb attacks aimed at Iraq's Shiite majority.(AFP/Al-Arabiya)
