Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline says that the state's sodomy law must be maintained to stop gay marriage, incest, and sex with children.

Kline made his arguments in a brief to the state Supreme Court in a case involving an 18 year old convicted of having sex with another teen and in which he was sentenced to more than 17 years in prison even though a heterosexual accused of the same crime would have faced only a little more than a year in jail.

Matthew Limon, convicted in 2000 of having sex at age 18 with a 14-year-old boy when both were residents of a Paola group home for the developmentally disabled

2. Kline is an extreme rightwinger who very-narrowly defeated the Dem
candidate last November.

Somehow using the same standards for heterosexual vs. homosexual relations with minors would destroy laws against sex with minors? Likewise incest laws? Would establish gay marriage, for that matter? The disconnect is a bit far even for the rabid, homophobic right.

Maybe Kline should be investigated for possible sexual relations with his state-paid chauffeur (his nephew). ;-)

I believe that I read that Bev's BBV had identified Kline's last minute "upset" as a very suspicious win.

There was a some type of mix up with the original election results; the votes were retabulated, then this wingnut narrowly won.

...western Kansas than in any of my travels to other countries. My girlfriend and I thought it would be fun to see what was out there off the main highways. We will never go back! Granted, we did meet a few very nice people, but they were the exception. Smirking cops and staring, gun-toting teenagers in pick-up trucks comprised most of our encounters, and made it a largely uncomfortable adventure. Why are they so threatened those who are different?

What a bad joke. After LIHOP #1, which many call 9/11, how casually and effortlessly the Busheviks returned us to the days when the Constitution ONLY applied to "citizens" and not the nigras, jews, wimmenfolk and fo course all the "deviants".

How easily we have returned to the 1850s in this aspect...how quickly we are returning in so many other ways.

Disgusting.

Imperial Amerika sure isn't a "beacon of freedom" anymore. Not with Dred Scott retaking hold of the land.

how does this law prevent any of the things this ignorant lout is babbling about? Incest has certainly not been stopped by it's illegality, and sex with children is already illegal. As far as gay marriage, if it isn't recognized by the state, that still doesn't mean that sodomy has to be illegal.

I admit to being baffled by opposing gay marriage. Do the neo-cons and fundies really believe that the day gay marriage is made legal, thousands of heterosexual people are going to decide, hey, what the heck, think I'll try marriage to member of my own sex, just for the hell of it.

This guy is a cretin.

Do you think Chenney would approve of his own daughter being cut out of opportunity because of her orientation? Kline did not check with Chenney on this obviously. This needs to come up in the '04 elections. It is a very devicive issue I think. Bush/ Homo lover what a ticket for the right wing nuts to run on. Lot of no shows on their side. They either except gays or they reject their own flesh and blood and that is the issue that should be forced on these pigs.

17. Agreed. It is a wedge issue within the republican party.
Whistle Ass should be forced to state whether he agrees with Cheney's position on civil unions. If he agrees, the Reich wing fundamentalists would turn on him with a vengeance.
