NASIRIYAH, Iraq At least 12 people died and as many as 100 have been injured in a fire that swept through the general hospital in the southern Iraqi city of Nasiriyah (nah-sih-REE'-uh).

The fire department says the blaze at the Nasiriyah General Hospital was believed cause by an electrical fault.

The injured were transferred to another hospital in the city, about 200 miles southeast of Baghdad.
