Viet Nam's assistance to the Cuban agricultural sector through the transfer of experience and techniques in rice cultivation at the household level was highly regarded and considered a contribution to strengthening food security in Cuba.

The appraisal was made by Cuban Minister and President of the Cuban section to the Cuba-Viet Nam Commission for Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation Ricardo Cabrisas while receiving in Havana, on Jan. 22, a visiting delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, headed by Associate Professor and Doctor Ta Minh Son.
The Cuban Minister stressed that cooperation in biotechnology and agriculture, especially rice cultivation, was a symbol of the solidarity and cooperation between Cuba and Viet Nam, and a model of cooperation for developing countries.

The Vietnamese delegation highlighted Viet Nam's achievements and experiences in agriculture and rural renovation, which turned Viet Nam, historically a food importer, into the world's leading rice exporter.
The delegation and Cuban agricultural experts reviewed the project for the 2002-2005 period, which has been carried out in central Sancti Spiritus and eastern Granma provinces. Thanks to the assistance of Vietnamese experts and machines, Cuban farmers have tripled or doubled their outputs, harvesting 7 tonnes of rice per ha, and markedly reduced their production costs.

They discussed a plan to carry out the second phase of the project scheduled for the 2005-2007 period in six eastern provinces of Cuba.

2. Agricultural techniques prevalent in eastern Asia
could provide the "green revolution" the third world is so desperate for. China especially supports an enormous population on very little arable land, and they do it without expensive mechanization and chemical treatments.

Oh, I know Malthus wouldn't be pleased. However, he was wrong about one thing: lack of food doesn't curb population growth. Raising the expectations of women does.

3. We pushed it too far
The United States has had its flaws over its existence. We have slavery and segregation to our name. We have CIA scandals to our name. We went on an imperialistic war in the late 1800's (Spanish-American war). We also used some diplomacy with other nations in the past. We made several agreements, pacts, and treaties over the years.

That has changed.

We now operate as an empire that can justify conquering the world. We make stuff up to suit our ends. This is dangerous and self-destructive. We will bring all humanity down with this.

The rest of the world knows it and is uniting against us.

4. Just because Cuba has joint ventures doesn't mean "against us"
It is not a black/white situation.

Cuba has vigorously pursued normalized relations with the US for 45+ years.

Cuba is not an enemy of the US.
