Pat Robertson prays that Hurricane Isabel will turn away"
Edited on Tue Sep-16-03 03:33 PM by Gin
Virginia Beach, Virginia-AP -- The Reverend Pat Robertson, whose Christian Broadcasting Network could be hit by Hurricane Isabel, has asked God to turn the storm away from Virginia Beach and the U-S East Coast.

On today's broadcast of "The 700 Club," Robertson gave God credit for turning past hurricanes away in response to prayer.

53. But what about everyone else?
The problem I have with Pat claiming credit for God moving hurricanes in the past is that they don't go out to sea, they go further north, damaging property and hurting people in NY-NJ-Mass. Now, admittedly, we're (according to pure-breed conservatives) a bunch of commie-liberal sodomites, but it really doesn't seem fair to be playing favorites.

24. Yes, God is telling Pat he must prove his faith to the heathen...
by standing on the waterfront (preferably, a pier) in Category 3 winds with his Bible.

It's quite clear to me that he MUST do this, or why would Isabel be heading towards him? If Pat refuses to demonstrate his great faith by accomplishing this great mission, he has failed utterly. All the bad things that happen in this country or on this earth from then on will be his responsibility to shoulder.

Are you listening, Pat? Get out there and do what you must do.

27. Why would God create a hurricane to just turn about on Pat's whim?
God is all-knowing. He/She created this hurricane knowing exactly what the outcome of it will be. A god that creates death and destruction must be a Republican God or else not really all-knowing. If God is a Republican we're in deep doo doo unless our liberal God is stronger. I'm confused.

We are all praying for this, why is Pat Robertson anything special? Isn't there a verse in Matthew about people who pray in public? Something to the effect that they're going to hell because they already got their reward on earth?

I believe Robertson to be an atheist. He sure doesn't follow the Gospels.

way back when but see now they have a Republican Governor and Virginia has a Democratic Governor so maybe God (redneck idea of a stupid Republican ass) will punish Virginia this time.

Then Robertson and his ilk can blame it on the Democrats!!!

This man blasphemies in the true sense of the word that religious people keep. Like the Popes in Dante's Inferno who lived in wealth and sloth in life, this man will be relegated to the lowest echelons of hell.

``In the name of Jesus, we reach out our hand in faith and we command that storm to cease its forward motion to the north and to turn and to go out into the sea,'' Robertson prayed on ``The 700 Club'' program.

35. Does God do personal favors?
I don't know a lot about Pat's god, but the one I know doesn't take orders from me or anyone else. Prayer is about enriching one's understanding and acceptance of the universe as it unfolds, not for requesting that the "plan" be altered for one's own personal benefit. (Just thought I would share my outlook; not saying It is better than anyone else's!)

"Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz?"

72. it'd be just like that climactic scene in "The Ten Commandments"
The storm is raging. Huge waves are coming in and the wind is blowing so hard you can't hear anything. Robertson, in priestly white robes, holds up his shepherd's staff as his followers cower at this feet, trying to maintain their faith yet fearful.

Robertson raises the staff as high as he can.
He turns to his people and shouts:
"BEHOLD HIS MIGHTY POW=urrrckslpguck!"

Just saw the mayor of Virginia Beach on TV saying that some people will have to wait as long as two weeks to get their power back on!
