HP may farm out Fiorina's job duties, says report

Hewlett-Packard Co.'s board of directors is considering a plan that would redistribute some of the day-to-day responsibilities of its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Carly Fiorina to other HP executives, due in part to the board's displeasure with the company's uneven performance, according to a report published Monday.

One down? 360 to go?

Could HP CEO Carly Fiorina finally have to eat her own words?

"There is no job that is America's God-given right anymore." - Carly Fiorina

18. I want to start a company that outsources executives.
Think I'll be successful?

The executives will object, but outsourcing is in the shareholder's best interests. Business degrees can be earned in India and China as easily as engineering and computer science degrees can.

2. Fitting for her
She took HP from a leader in innovation and employee-focused management to a run of the mill tech outsourcer. They shipped so many jobs to Asia , its a good thing her job will be outsourced too.

3. yup the whole philosophy of slash and burn
has paid off time and time again right?

Let's look at Lucent (once a "ivory tower" of research and innovation...decimated toasted to insane management and crap
products)

HP, a leader in quality for both employment and incredible
durable products...

This is what bothers me the most about all of this outsourcing,
H-1B visa constantly screwing whoever you can philosophy...

it doesn't pay out in terms of the bottom line profit margins..
it destroying the company..

they don't get it.

But in her case I believe the motivation is a huge bonus package
for mergers and slash and burn...
CEO's unfortunately get huge incentives financially to do this
crap.

I honestly wish they were forced to do this with a guy in a back alley..

maybe America would see the real picture then.

those words should come back to haunt her.

of course, she'll most likely get a huge severance package.

6. Just a cost of doing business - they all go with the flow
For example, take a look at what you get when you search for George Soros.

http://www.newsmeat.com/ceo_political_donations/George_Soros.php

Down at the bottom, check out the donation to George H. W. Bush.

Frankly, I don't think Fiorina got much for her $$$. I'm glad to see reality catching up with her and her strategies. She's turned HP from an innovator and engineering powerhouse into a Walmart big-box supplier of Asian-made goods with an HP logo slapped on the label. The Packard family fought a messy and unsuccessful war to prevent her ascent, fearing the loss of the brand's elan...they were right.

The HP debacle raises an interesting, if counterintuitive point. The globalization of American manufacturing jobs means substantially cheaper prices for goods. Are we willing to pay considerably higher prices for goods to keep jobs onshore? I don't see much evidence of it, even among my most progressive friends. Talk is cheap, but action speaks volumes.

7. That's Bush I......
Soros is clearly on our side. I see no issues with someone who was Republican in the past and switches sides because he doesn't like what is happening.

8. I agree...
...just pointing out that a CEO's political donations aren't a very reliable indicator of politics. Most of them treat them pragmatically, more like dues they have to pay, or a business expense.

13. I don't agree with that statement
Take a look at this report of America's top 100 CEOs:
http://www.newsmeat.com/ceo.php

I would say almost all of them are quite partisan. Very few play both sides anywhere near evenly.

11. It's a conservative strawman
Are we willing to pay considerably higher prices for goods to keep jobs onshore?

What we should be willing to do is curtail the burden imposed on productive work by over-compensated top management and parasitical financial speculators. We should strive to increase compensation for those who create value through productive work (unlike, say, Carly Fiorina or George Soros), which in turn would allow workers to afford more of the goods they produce.

I don't have the exact quote, but I believe that Carly Fiorina said that "Americans don't have the right to expect a job." Well, @sshole, your words have just come back to bite you. You've been offshored. Hope you enjoy it.
