Saddam's Lawyer Reportedly in Hiding
Saddam's Lawyer Reportedly in Hiding
By JAMAL HALABY, Associated Press Writer

AMMAN, Jordan - An Iraqi lawyer on Saddam Hussein's defense team has received several death threats in the last three weeks and has gone into hiding, the chief defense attorney for the deposed Iraqi leader said Monday.

Khalil al-Duleimi, one of 25 attorneys representing Saddam, told other lawyers on the team that the threats followed his Dec. 16 meeting with the ousted Iraqi leader, according to chief defense attorney Ziad al-Khasawneh.

Saddam was arraigned in a Baghdad court in July 2004 on charges of war crimes and genocide. He is awaiting trial before a special Iraqi tribunal.

Al-Duleimi claimed that several messages were delivered to his home warning that "suicide cells had been formed specifically to liquidate him so that he would set an example to all other attorneys who have volunteered to defend President Saddam," al-Khasawneh said.

Al-Duleimi feared for the safety of himself and his family, so he went into hiding, al-Khasawneh said.

Saddam's legal team regards the interim Iraqi government as an "illegitimate" body installed by the United States following what they say was an illegal war aimed to control the country's oil wealth.

1. What did he think would happen?
People didn't like Saddam Hussein, for a myriad of reasons. He killed a lot of people. He was oppressive. He wasn't Mulsim enough.

This doesn't surprise me, and I'm surprised he's just started getting threats.

2. Like Milosevic, eh? Oh wait, turns out the case against him is falling
apart too, for a complete lack of evidence... much as the case against saddam is also falling apart, since there isn't an iota of actual evidence.... Just a lot of stories, lies and fables.

3. So Milosevic is actually a good guy?
You'd want to live in a country that he was in charge of, if you were of the wrong ethnicity?

Ditto Saddam?

4. That is indeed how the case is appearing. The primary culprit was
a guy nicknamed el tigre who was killed, ending the slaughter.

You should check into the current status of the case. It's being kept pretty quiet since there is a lot of egg on many faces.

The same is also coming to for saddam. It turns out the stories are fantasies and so far, none have been proven.

What? the USA LIED? SAY it isn't SO!

5. Of course the US lies
But that doesn't forgive those two monsters for what they have done.

Not to try to push your buttons or anything, but defending and making excuses for those two make you sound like those idiots who contend that Hitler didn't actually kill all those Jews.

Just because our government does bad things doesn't mean that everyone else is automatically good.

There's enough evil in this world that lots of people can have a share.

7. Ah, the Hitler card
The rhetorical suicide belt.

But anyway, by your standards, 90% of world leaders would be considered eviltm-axis-of, and, unfortunately for America's credibility, we didn't begin regime change anywhere near the top of that list.

8. We all know what hitler did. it's well documented by millions. The lies
about saddam originate from one single source, however, and the stories about milosevic come from strange, unknown sources, however.

Don't try to sell any BS here that Saddam might have been a swell guy. DUers are pretty resistant to propaganda.
