White House shrugs off finding contamination could bar stem cells from treatment

WHITE HOUSE The White House is shrugging off a new study that suggests contamination of the existing lines of embryonic stem cells could bar their use in treating disease.

Press Secretary Scott McClellan says the president is satisfied those existing lines are "adequate" for the "basic research that needs to be done."

In 2001, Bush barred federal funding of experiments using new lines of human stem cells. He cited ethical concerns with harvesting those cells from destroyed embryos.

McClellan says Bush knew about the issue in 2001, but agreed with the view of top government scientists that it wouldn't prevent research into potential breakthrough disease cures.

1. Well, if the President says they are okay, then they must be
He's got an advanced degree in bio-chemistry and genetics, doesn't he?

Oh. Nevermind...

10. remember August, 2001?
Bushco was so focused on finding some sort of middle ground on stem cells that wouldn't piss off the fundies that he ignored little things like a PDB on August 6 that led to ... well, you know the rest.

2. George has looked into the souls of those stem cell lines and found them
to be good. So that is that. Works for me.

4. Bush Never Gave a Good God-Damn About Any of That Anyhow
He only wanted to avoid pissing off the vast mainstream of Americans who see the value in medical research and innovation, while at the same time avoid pissing off the religio-crazies who believe that their invisible friend in the clouds would prefer embryos be incinerated rather than be used to help cure devestating diseases and medical conditions.

But now the election is over, so fuck em all.

This is the emerging pattern for the second term. "You thought you got fucked in our first term? Well now we don't have to worry about who we piss off, suckers!"

5. DeGette-Castle Bill
Reps. Diana DeGette (D-CO) and Mike Castle (R-DE) are sponsoring a bill to lift the Bush restrictions on funding for stem cell research. Please urge your Representative and Senators to sign on as co-sponsors.

6. Ok, We GET IT Dubya...
George does not care.
He does not care if Americans
get cured of disease.

He likes to see people suffer,
we already know he jokes about
executions.

If his family needs stem cell treatment
they will go to Japan or Switzerland.
Same as his momma's generation did for abortions.
If it is good enough for momma, it is good enough for
georgie.

If you need it... FOAD.

7. They knew from the beginning those lines were not usable
due to contanination from mice & other animals.

The whole thing was a PR stunt.
