US Vice President Cheney to head US delegation at Auschwitz observances
AFP: 1/24/2005

WASHINGTON, Jan 24 (AFP) - Vice President Dick Cheney will lead a US delegation to Poland for observances marking the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkinau death camps, the White House announced Monday.

The vice president, accompanied by his wife Lynne, was to join some 2,000 survivors of the Auschwitz extermination camp on Thursday, alongside world leaders and several of the surviving Red Army soldiers who liberated the facility.

Cheney is also to take part in an event honoring survivors of the Holocaust who are now American citizens, and plans to deliver remarks to an international forum. He will also tour the Auschwitz facility, the White House said.

Cheney's agenda is to include meetings with Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski, Polish Prime Minister Marek Belka, and Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko, US officials said.

4. if i were a holocaust survivor, i would spit dick cheney and his wife lynn
in the eyes. they embody so much of the fascist thought that created auschwitz and birkenau...why would i want to travel with a hypocrite who could in an instant create another auschwitz-birkenau and send so many of us to the gas chambers (or the modern version of such chambers). either, holocaust survivors are selling their own, or those who are traveling with the cheneys are mere impostors passing for holocaust survivors.

17. Center for Constitution Rights filed suit in Germany
Suit Filed In Germany: Support investigation of Rumsfeld et al. For war crimes at Abu Ghraib:

Call on the German Federal Prosecutor to Investigate Rumsfeld
The Center for Constitutional Rights and four Iraqis who were tortured in U.S. custody filed a complaint on November 30 with the German Federal Prosecutor's Office against high ranking United States civilian and military commanders over the abuses at Abu Ghraib prison and elsewhere in Iraq.

We are asking the German prosecutor to launch an investigation because the U.S. government is unwilling to open an independent investigation into the responsibility of these officials for war crimes and the U.S. has refused to join the International Criminal Court. CCR and the Iraqi victims brought this complaint to Germany as a court of last resort. Several of the defendants are stationed in Germany.

The Pentagon and the U.S. government are taking this suit very seriously. According to the Deutsche Press Agency, Donald Rumsfeld has warned Germany that he will not attend an upcoming security conference in Munich if there is any indication of an investigation going forward, and Chief Pentagon Spokesman Larry Di Rita, calling the complaint "frivolous," said that he raised the case with the State Department: "State is engaged in this. Obviously, it's something that we're focused on and very concerned with" Please encourage the German prosecutor not to bow to U.S. pressure.

Defendants in the suit include Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld, former CIA Director George Tenet, Lt. General Ricardo S. Sanchez, Major-General Walter Wojdakowski, Brig.-General Janis Karpinski, Lt.-Colonel Jerry L. Phillabaum, Colonel Thomas M. Pappas, Lt.-Colonel Stephen L. Jordan, Major-General Geoffrey Miller, and Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence Stephen Cambone.

German law allows German courts to prosecute for killing, torture, cruel and inhumane treatment, forcible transfers and sexual coercion such as occurred at Abu Ghraib. The world has seen the photographs and read the leaked "torture memos". We are doing what is necessary when other systems of justice have failed and seeking to hold officials up the chain of command responsible for the shameful abuses that occurred.

Please join our effort! The letter appears below, first in German and then in English. The German Prosecutor has discretion to decide whether to initiate an investigation. It is critical that he hear from you so he knows that people around the world support this effort.

21. Lawyers in Germany Charge Rumsfeld, Tenet With War Crimes:
http://207.44.245.159/article7396.htm

Michael Ratner, President of the Center for Constitutional Rights:

Germany has the best single law probably in the world right now for prosecuting alleged war criminals. You can prosecute them anywhere in the world. They have universal jurisdiction and we decided to come to Germany partly on the basis of that law and partly on the basis that three of the people involved in torture are actually in Germany.

Ricardo Sanchez...his Deputy Major Picowski and Colonel Pathos, they are all at U.S. military bases in Germany, so that gives you another handle. They are actually here.
They are people who we allege were deeply involved in the abuses and torture that took place. Germany is different than the United States in the sense that you can actually bring a criminal complaint and the prosecutor has to do something with it. He has to either investigate it, go ahead and do something, indict people, or he could reject it, but in that case you can always go to a court.

snip

One is the U.S. is not doing anything to investigate the chain of command going up. The investigations are a complete fraud. There are only criminal indictments at best against low-level officials and there's nowhere you can turn to international courts; the U.S. isn't in the ICC. So this is really,

snip

Coupled with the attempts to keep Bush out of Canada right now that are being made on the grounds that their immigration law doesn't allow war criminals for people who violate laws of war into Canada. We're really, I think, trying to make I think this world right now as uncomfortable for these people in the administration as we can.

This may deserve a larger audience--

7. So Rummy is going to stay home and play "Secret Police" while
Dickey Poo covers for him? What cowards! Wouldn't it be awesome if they arrested Cheney? Why not? Technically, he IS Rummy's boss. So if they want to arrest him...wouldn't they arrest the man who obviously gave the OK? Everybody has a dream...

11. Thanks Bob!
We all need to be reminded of how Prescott Bush made some fortune off the deaths at Auschwitz.

Now if they had used Clinton's grandpa's penis to beat people there, it would be common knowledge.

23. Speechless in Germany,
Edited on Tue Jan-25-05 01:53 AM by Dirk39
The victims and theirs sons and daughters don't have any kind of moral obligations. But I cannot think of anything more tasteless and insulting than this.
I try to switch back to "diplmacy". I guess even the Republicans a few years ago would not have even thought about doing something tasteless and disgusting like this.
They would have sent someone without blood on his hands, if only to follow the "etiquette".
No human beings were ever murdered like this and 60 years later fascists and massmurders like Cheney will rape them once more and abuse them for their fascist propaganda.
I just pray to God that this will not be televised.
I remember, when I was 21 in 1985, and Reagan did accompany Kohl - the german chancellor then, in saluting the german SS-terrorists, massmurders and Nazis in Bitburg. I thought this could not be surpassed. But I'm proved wrong once more.
Dear God, if you have plans for any natural deaths here on earth during the next weeks, please take a close look at this asshole. It's all up to you anyway....

Dirk
