Bush to Seek About $80 Bln for Military Operations
Okay ... this is probably a duplicate, but I couldn't find it in the DU Latest Breaking News, so perhaps someone will direct me to the thread.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Bush administration plans to announce as early as Tuesday that it will seek about $80 billion in new funding for military operations this year in Iraq and Afghanistan, administration and congressional sources said on Monday.

The new supplemental budget request would come on top of the $25 billion in emergency spending already approved for the current fiscal year, and will push total 2005 funding for military operations and equipment close to a record $105 billion, the sources said on Monday.

1. Just add $105 billion (plus interest) to the 2005 deficit.
Edited on Mon Jan-24-05 04:39 PM by TahitiNut
The United States of Arbusto - bankrupt and sold off to the highest global corporatist bidders.

If the Dems had an ounce of integrity, they'd insist on a war profiteering tax and a surtax on all income over $250K/year.

8. We need some pissed off Democrats in Congress
Ready to take this asshole on. I'm sick of Chimpy getting everything he wants. Yet, we read about social programs being cut. What gives, here?
I don't want to play in the sandbox anymore. If I was a member of Congress, I'd fight these people to my death. I'd be the biggest thorn in their side, like a frigging fishwife. This madness has to stop. Somebody send us a fighter, someone who's not scared of them. And anyway, why would anybody be scared of these idiots? It just makes me sick.

4. I want to know what tre spending this money on!
I have no problem with enlistment bonuses, retention bonuses, or increasing the survivor benefits. I don't like giving ANYBODY a blank check! What is this money being spent on? Is it the secret investigative body Rummy has? Is it to give more funds to Halliburton? Is it to increase the salaries of the Generals and the hell with the grunts?

I WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE'RE SPENDING THIS MASSIVE AMOUNT OF MONEY ON!!!!!

6. War debt should be regularly thrown in Bush's face
Already this is the 5th costliest (adjusting cost of all other wars to 2004 dollar values)war in US history.

It is already more expensive than the Civil War (combined cost), Gulf War, Spanish American War, Revolutionary War, Mexican American War, or the War of 1812.

When this year's 105 billion is spent, the war cost will rival that of World War I. That was the nation's fourth most financially expensive war (WWII, Vietnam and Korea are 1, 2, and 3)

9. Where's the God Damn Accountabilty??
So the total cost of war will be hovering around 300 billion dollars!?

15. That is why John Kerry voted against the $89 billion; he wanted
the Bushistas to have to tell what they are spending it on. We know it isn't body armor or armor for the vehicles in Iraq.

16. $271 billion and counting...
Lessee' There was the initial $79 billion funding in 2003. Then the $87 billion in chump change in 2004. Add to that the $105 billion for 2005. Hey, pretty soon this will amount to some serious nickel!

Yup, my pre-war estimate of $600 billion seems like a sure bet. And to think it was costing us all of $4 billion a year to keep the dangerous WMD-wielding Hussein-a-muffin comfortably contained! I guess we weren't feeding the Maws of Moloch just enough...

No wonder the dollar is tanking, central banks the world over are bailing, and the Great Depression II is about to be ushered in. Time for another tax cut, no doubt. Or another 9-11.

19. how much of these billions find their way to The Carlyle Group?
having a former president profiteering as Poppy Bu$h's is beyond the pale ... downright criminal ...

how convenient to have dimson as figurehead to help continue to pillage our Treasury to enrich the family coffers under the cloak of The Carlyle Group ... and, who will inherit some of it one day?

when will the Bu$h Clan's retribution for losing their business for trading with the enemy be complete? once they have totally destroyed our country??

re Army Prepares 'Robo-Soldier' for Iraq
QinetiQ's Board of Directors includes a Carlyle Board member ...

23. perfect...
a glance at msnbc.com headlines this morning:

Fierce fighting in Baghdad
Judge assassinated
11 Iraqi police killed
Five GIs die as vehicle rolls into canal.
Systematic torture
Bush to seek $80 Billion more... sure... why not...

Are we complete idiots to go along with this charade? When will Congress (at least the Dems) stand up to this insanity?
