~snip~

Meanwhile, a US soldier was killed in a bomb blast in Baghdad Monday, the US Army said in a statement Tuesday.

"A Task Force Baghdad Soldier died of wounds at approximately 7:00 pm (1600 GMT) January 24. The soldier sustained the injuries when a patrol was attacked with an improvised explosive device in western Baghdad," the military said.

Another Five US soldiers died in a road accident north of Baghdad, the military said in a statement Tuesday.

"Five 1st Infantry Division Soldiers died and two were injured in a vehicle accident near Khan Bani Saad" on Monday, the statement said. One of the wounded was in serious condition.

The deaths raise the number of US soldiers killed in Iraq to 1,374 since the March 2003 invasion, 296 of them in non-combat incidents, according to the latest figures from the Pentagon.

10. No, this is just the pregame warm up
The vote means nothing. After the farce it'll be easier to see who is who and the civil war will begin in earnest.

5. I've always thought this country was run by the wise and
folks having unlimited power of wisdom. 0h, how wrong I've been in my thinking. Everyday that passes now, I'm more convinced this nation is run by the most morally corrupt men this planet has ever produced.

8. And the worst thing about it may be...
that most of them think they are doing the right thing. It makes it hard to crack their armor. If I think they are delusional idiots, am I giving them the benefit of the doubt?
I think Cheney, Rove, Wolfowitz, Perle, et. al. are really immoral. I think the bushniks have ingested the koolaid.

6. "Bush to seek $80 Billion more"
a glance at msnbc.com headlines this morning:

Fierce fighting in Baghdad
Judge assassinated
11 Iraqi police killed
Five GIs die as vehicle rolls into canal.
Systematic torture
Bush to seek $80 Billion more

Are we complete idiots to go along with this charade? When will Congress (at least the Dems) stand up to this insanity?

Different question: why are our vehicles constantly rolling into canals? I realize in this case it was in a sandstorm but routinely they are having this types of accidents. What is really going on on the ground? Are there detours or IEDs that force them into canals?

19. The War ended when Bidness stopped making $
The last US ground combat troops left Vietnam on 23 August, 1972
November 14, 1972 DJIA reaches 1000 for the first
time.

Fox News argue on bringing the soldiers
home now. When Fox turns, like Cronkite?

In April of 1975, the peoples of the world watched, as the final
act of US imperial misadventure played itself out on TV
screens. It was here at the US headquarter (embassy)
in Saigon, South Vietnam, where the limit of US power was
on display. The misadventure that took the lives of more
than three million innocent people and left three nations in
ruins, was an atrocity ‘dedicated to the maintenance of
an imperialist system’. Similar to its objectives
in Vietnam, the US objectives in Iraq are the conquest of
Iraq’s oil resources and the expansion of US
imperial dominance. It will
fail.

17. Heavy fighting outside Baghdad International Airport
AMMAN, Jordan (AP) Heavy fighting outside
Baghdad International Airport prevented two flights for
Jordan's national carrier from landing Monday, the
airline spokesman said.

Royal Jordanian's planes made quick turns over
Baghdad, where the airport's control tower denied the
aircraft permission to land because there was a heavy firefight
in the vicinity, the spokesman said on condition of
anonymity.

He said the two flights one in the morning and the other at
noon returned to Amman safely, he said

The Army, especially the Army Reserve and National Guard,
are coming unglued under the stress of deployments that go
far beyond what they were led to expect. The general in charge
of the Army Reserve recently said that the Reserve is
“rapidly degenerating into a ‘broken’ force.” Within 48 hours,
the Pentagon responded – by leaking plans to increase
the length and frequency of Reserve deployments. That
is another Boydian sign of coming unglued: actions directly
at variance with facts.

Edited on Tue Jan-25-05 10:24 AM by jmcgowanjm
the Cambodians could count their casualties: 39 officers and other ranks were killed and 170
injured. Fortunately for the AVNK no pilots were killed: the
pilot's quarters were not hit by the Vietnamese sappers,
as these mainly targeted the aircraft on apron, and also all
the pilots were evacuated to some
irrigation dikes near the runway during the attack. However,
most of
the AVNK aircraft were destroyed, including all MiG-17s, all
except six T-28s (these were deployed to Battambang), and UH-1Hs,
as well as three O-1s of the SVAF. The catastrophe was
so immense that it was later seen as the most influential factor
for the demise of Lon Nol's
regime.

23. Promises that junior gave to the U.S.
1. Iraq is gonna be a short war.

2. Now that Qusay and Uday lay dead before the Iraqis, the resistance will soon quiet down.

3. "We got him" said Paul Bremer. Saddam Hussein was captured and us folks were indeed told that would slow down the heavy insurgency.

4. Winning the Falloujah war would break the back of the insurgents and Iraq would be won.

5. Things will get better after the elections. We'll see!

What am I missing?
