Less Than 25 Percent of Eligible Overseas Voters Have Registered for Iraqi Elections; U.S. Registration at About 10 Percent

By Bradley S. Klapper Associated Press Writer
Published: Jan 25, 2005

GENEVA (AP) - Less than 25 percent of eligible Iraqi expatriates have signed up to vote in Sunday's elections, officials said Tuesday, the last day for overseas registration.
In the United States, registration is running at about 10 percent.

International figures from the first eight days of registration - excluding Tuesday - showed that more than 255,600 Iraqis signed up for the vote, according to the International Organization for Migration. The Geneva-based body is handling voter registration outside Iraq.

"You have to see the positive side," IOM spokesman Jean-Philippe Chauzy told The Associated Press. "More than a quarter of a million have made the effort to go and register to vote."

3. sure is one way to round up those "terrahists"
get those Iraqis to the nearby Federal
buildings to register.

I still think the "winners" will be
chosen from outside the country, not inside.
Why do we even believe there is a legit.
election anywhere anymore.

13. yes some Iraqis in Nebraska had to drive to Chicago to vote, like
an easy 1000+ mile round trip in the middle of winter. I think there are only 5 polling places in the US. Ask me if I would ever drive over a 1000 miles to vote.

6. Gee, that's funny, all the news reports I've seen were of overjoyed
Iraqis shedding tears at their chance to finally vote. Could it BE that I'm the victim of propaganda?!

7. Right wing radio told their robots that 60-70% of IRaqis are going to vote
and that proves that it was good to go get Saddamm...\

Silly question from me, how in the world are they going to vote if they dont know the candidates and they dont know where the polling places are?!?!?

8. The polling places are the same
places they registered: Nashville (Memphis?), LA, etc.

I wonder what percentage lived within easy driving distance of the registration places?

12. That's Bush's idea of Democracy?
Seems strange that no one knows who's running, nor do they know where to vote. Also, do ya think the U.S. will allow just anyone to run in this election - of course not! Won't whoever wins just end up being a puppet for the U.S. - of course! And, not revealing the names of the persons running is supposed to protect them - what happens after the election? The winner would be in danger anyway! Is this the democracy that Bush is trying to impose. Of course, his idea of democracy is a dictatorship anyway - they guy is dangerous!

10. If you're a US citizen & vote in a foreign election, you loose your
citizenship! Unless they changed the rules for that. They could end up back in Iraq real fast for voting.

11. Well, if it's that bad in countries other than Iraq.....
I imagine it'll be about 10% or less in Iraq. However, only one person has to vote in Iraq for this adminstration and the MSM whores to proclaim it a huge victory. They'll show how excited and happy that one person is to vote. Then Faux News will replay it over and over and over and over for their ignorant viewers.
