Congo Interior Minister Denies Rumor President Joseph Kabila Was Shot
KINSHASA, Congo (AP) - Congo's interior minister denied a rumor circulating in the capital on Tuesday that President Joseph Kabila had been shot a day earlier.
"It was nothing but a rumor, Kabila is alive," Interior Minister Theophile Mbemba told reporters in Kinshasa.

Kabila's father, rebel-leader-turned-president Laurent Kabila was gunned down by his own bodyguard in January 2001.

Kinshasa Gov. Kimbunda Mudikela also went on state radio to deny the alleged shooting on Monday.

Vice President Abdoulaye Yerodia said Kabila spent Tuesday in a meeting with the country's four vice presidents in Kinshasa.
