Official: Syria Seeking Banned Weapons (our next war)
By HARRY DUNPHY, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Syria is allowing militants to cross its border into Iraq (news - web sites) to kill U.S. soldiers and is aggressively seeking to acquire and develop chemical, biological and nuclear weapons, a senior Bush administration official said Tuesday.

1. Ohhhhh! Now I get it.
The reason they are now saying that they never connected Saddam with 9/11 is because they now want to connect Syria with 9/11. We need another war to get those polls back up.

11. Guess he had to find something to do
after is rhetoric about N Korea became so inflamatory that he was barred from participating in further talks with North Korea (to try to avert a nuclear conflagration).

15. But it's safe to let him loose on Syria, because ...
the Dubya thugs know damn good and well that Syria neither has WMDs nor is developing them -- so it's not dangerous, like N. Korea may be.

13. John Bolton is a pathological liar, here is a reminder of why
Back in 2001, Bolton accused Cuba of developing biological weapons to be used by terrorists against American interests. Bolton never presented any credible evidence, and he was laughed off the stage.

Here we have the same pathological liar hard at work in getting public support for an attack on Syria. One more war in which American blood will be shed for the sake of PNAC and Israel.

7. Don't laugh at this disinformation...
I predicted that Syria would be the next target in the spring or summer of next year. These MF'ers WILL GO TO WAR TO SOLIDIFY BUSH'S POLITICAL POSITION. Yeah that's disgusting and it would be hard to get most Americans to believe it...that's the point.

Americans believed a bogus story of WMD and they will believe it again. You have to tell a big lie to make it look like truth.

8. This is the second time I've seen this
Edited on Tue Sep-16-03 09:47 PM by legin
Perle (of course) said it the first time I noticed it.

"Bolton put Syria in the same category as Iran, North Korea (news - web sites) and Libya as "rogue states, those most aggressively seeking to acquire weapons of mass destruction and their delivery and which are therefore threats to our national security."

This is now a standard tenent of u.s. foreign policy, basically put, 'any nation who we are not that keen on that tries to aquire nuclear weapons threatens the u.s.'s vital national interests (security). Because the u.s.'s vital national interests are at stake we are allowed to bomb the shit out of them as is the norm in foreign policy'.

It's going to be a fun planet to live on, if the right wing stay in charge. (grim irony)

9. Is Bush going for a trifecta?
1) Take down regime in Afganistan, fail at the peace...
2) Take down regime in Iraq, fail at the peace...

3) Take down regime in Syria, fail at the peace?

I can't find it but I remember reading a piece last winter in which Bush said his goal was to create chaos...

I think he may achieve that.

(BTW if you know the piece I'm talking about please PM me with a link)

10. wow is this news or what???
syria has and still is making chemical weapons. the prodution started many years ago and has tapered off just recently.what they are concentrating on is developing better forms of chemicals. their program is in response to the israeli build up of weapons of mass destrution over the years. the syrians used these chemicals to put down a revolt of the sunni`s, causing anywhere from 7000 to 35000 deaths..
as of now the syrians haven`t the ability to produce bio weapons or nukes.more importantly they can`t find anyone to help them because the country is under constant watch by the usa and the israeli`s. it has been reported that the syrians are working with the cia in regards to the rements of the saddam regime.

Edited on Tue Sep-16-03 10:07 PM by Beetwasher
But you know what? It only begs the question of what a failure this admin is for several reasons:

1. No one will believe them now

2. This is proof the world is a more dangerous place because of the invasion.

3. Syria's a real can of worms that would NOT be anywhere near a pushover as Iraq and SYRIA KNOWS WE ARE COMPLETELY DEPLOYED AND TOOTHLESS AT THE MOMENT AND CAN TELL US TO FUCK OFF.

21. PNAC/Likud running our foreign policy ....
Edited on Tue Sep-16-03 11:17 PM by Flying_Pig
This article one of a series that has been published in the Times, over the last couple of months. Every week, there are at least two of these articles, stirring the "war pot" against either Iran, or Syria. In each case, the article quotes a member of PNAC (Bolton, Feith, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, Perle, et al), and usually contains a statement from a pro-Israeli/Likud congressional member, in this case, Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen of Florida.

What's happening, is that PNAC has teamed up with the more outspoken pro-Israeli/Likud lawmakers (both Republican and Democrat, go here, for another example from last week, and I've got many more: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=328634 ), in an effort to put some more fire to the Israeli/PNAC plan to reconstruct the Middle East following radical right-wing Likud precepts and strategy.

I find it outrageous, that these lawmakers, in attempting to guide our foreign policy by marshalling our troops and money to help the Likud accomplish its fascist goals for the Middle East, are in fact, committing treason. They are not operating in the interest of this nation, but representing the interests of another nation (Israel), and putting those interests above those of the U.S. This is against our Constitution, and violates their oaths of office.

The question I have, is how long are we going to allow PNAC, and their pro-Israeli/Likud sympathizers in the Congress, to drive our foreign policy, in their efforts to embroil us in endless wars for the sake of Israel (and secondarily, for oil)? It's time to write these lawmakers, and other members of congress, to protest their treasonous activities. Barring that, we should see that it is their children who are sent to fight the wars they are planning!

22. What, and Iran will sit and wait their turn?
I just can't imagine the Iranians sitting on their butts watching Assad get knocked out of power, knowing that they are next on the list. Look for Iran and Syria to put half their armies on the border with Iraq, and basically invade the minute the B*sh rhetoric reaches fever pitch. I see Vietnam level casualties for our boys in Iraq once 3 quarters of a million troops come screaming across the borders, and we figure out we don't have enough air power to hold them back. Idiots.:spank:

23. heard muted rattling of sabers and the whirling of spin
just caught pieces of it yesterday...

the one line that really caught my attention, (sorry can't remember who said it) "....Syria's WMD program is WORSE than Saddam's..."

When I heard that my first thought was "whoooo-boy, here we go again, invasion of Syria by spring of 2004...."

28. All you would have to have to be
worse than Saddam would be a can of Ortho. If the American public and the Congress go along with this shit, then this is no longer the America we have all hoped that it is. There are only three options left open if America invades Syria with public support: 1) take to the streets with violence, 2) hope that New Zealand will allow immigration, 3) buy a flag and a BUSH UBER ALLES bumper sticker and try to keep your head down.

25. Other than Iraq, Syria has
no UN resolutions forbidding them to build and possess WMD. Syria, like every other sovereign state on this planet can legally build as much gas grenades as they want to. If there´s any lesson to be learned from the Iraq occupation it´s to build WMD´s faster. This Assad son is a smart one, we can all be sure he saw it coming a year ago or longer. Hell, I have and I don´t have a secret service, I just have the news everyone has...
