50. Actually this is
the worst performance I've seen in a presidential news conference. He is being asked serious questions, and he is not able to handle the pressure. He is becoming the paranoid Richard Nixon in front of the cameras.

This ranks with the first Kerry debate.

He's been really testy about a lot of these questions. He basically has said, in response to what he would say to those that say Iraq was a mistake, that he did the right thing and no one should question him.

Now he's continuing to lie about SS becoming "bankrupt".

133. Does the WH plant 'good' reporters to bail Bush out.....
when the other reporters finally start asking hard questions? It sure looked like it. Bush was turning several shades of red, and then --a bald reporter asked him (slamming the democrats on SS) a 'made for Bush' question so he could start his ramble again how he needed to save SS. Just don't ask about paying for it, that pisses him off.

So, do you think maybe there might be some other reporters on the payroll to coddle Bush, when the going gets tough?

You could tell Bush is real worried about his troops, he makes one want to :puke:

He said that by the time someone who is now 25, turns 50, the system will be bankrupt.

Every expert has said that is simply not true. The system will still be able to pay about 80-85 % of its obligations. Far from broke.

36. *cough* "I have said our job is to confront issues... not to pass them on"
as he talks about Social Security...

Er W.. deficits and debt... you have exploded the problem and are passing it on in a HUGE way to the future...

Er W.. the lack of acknowledgement of global warming and the effects of poisoning the environment - you refuse to confront, but instead protect those creating the damage - and you are definitely passing these problems on...

er W - and most spectacularly - you manufactured a problem to confront and have passed on a problem that DIDNT exist to generations in the future in terms of ill will; lack of trust in the US; costs to our country and to Iraq; the weakening of our ability to use military action if we were to really need to do so... etc.

who are also not democratic (China, Russia, Saudi Arabia).

Bush says or foreign policy is not "either/or". Religious freedom is a part of a wholesome society. Says he has discussed the issue of freedom with Putin.

Democracy is a work in progress...blah, blah. We didn't treat everyone equally at first. Democracy is the work of generations.

No follow up questions.

105. Going back to that odd rhetoric of a year ago
that "some people don't think that some peoples can't self govern..." "I (noble I) don't believe that, I believe that condemns people to tyranny"

Intended message: anyone who isn't with me (on his iraq policy) is a racist - as being a racist is the only reason why anyone would be against my stand.

Reality - ridiculous strawman

Implication - he is running out of things to say and realizing that saying the same five lines over and over again wasn't working well. And without the ability to think critically he pulled out the lines from older speeches (which didn't go over well the first time...)

Edited on Wed Jan-26-05 10:56 AM by TwoSparkles
He's so despicable!!

The Chimpster didn't even mention the 31 Marines that died today, until a reporter prompted him with a question about them.

This press conference was called, solely for "damage control" when the full brunt of the Marine story hits America. Then, the pig doesn't even have the courage to mention these brave soldiers.

He began the press conference with his "freedom" bullshit. In other words, he was PR-ing the death of these 31 Marines with his Freedom-Marketing Blitz. How fucking hollow.

This was one of his worst press conferences ever.

126. Fascism always includes use of words with opposite meanings
Invading and occupying another country is called "freeing" them.

Asking questions because you're worried about why America is doing something is labeled "Anti-American." You "hate" America if you care enough to ask questions.

If you ask why we are brutalizing the people of another country, you are called "racist because you don't believe some people can handle freedom."

Look at the gate leading into Auschwitz in Poland. The Nazis built the words "Freedom through Work."

BUSH SEEMED LIKE HE WAS REALLY BLASTED. HE SEEMED TO ME LIKE HE WAS EITHER DRUNK, OR HAVING SOME SORT OF PROBLEM WITH HIS BALANCE... if he was drunk and blasted yesterday ... he may still be that today or he may just be having a hissy fit because he hasn't gotten his bottle or his drug and he's taking it out on the press and the rest of us by way of the press.

When asked about Alberto Gonzalas' views on torture, the reporter mentioned he (Gonzalas) wrote: "it was acceptable, but only if done by the CIA in another country," and did Bush agree with this. Bush answered something like, " Al's views are the views of this administration!" Someone please tell me I heard this wrong!

from his inaugural speech. Papa's impromptu press conference did not cut it and guess what? He did more damage today than he did on Jan 20 as far as I am concerned. I felt he was even more aggressive today when forced to use his own words. I fear the next four years.
